Box Elder Sugar From Local Tree Trial Near Hastings
Mr A W Sinclair living about nine miles south and three east of Hastings brought a cake of very sweet sugar to the office. The sugar resembled maple sugar in taste and color and was made from the Box Elder tree. The trees are six to ten years old and were tapped last week like maples, with juice boiled down to produce the sugar. If successful, box elder sugar would benefit Nebraskans who have planted these trees and the Gazitate Journal invites others to share experiments and results.
