Severe Island Quake Threatens Hawaii Volcanoes

A major earthquake struck the Island of Hawaii near Puayense and western districts, with aftershocks and panicked residents. Dr. Thomas Jaggar warned that Mauna Loa Kilauea and Hualalai could erupt, possibly simultaneously, within a month, as tremors damaged structures and seismographs.

Judge Nixon Returns to Greeley After Omaha Visit

Judge John C. Nixon and Mrs. Nixon will return to Greeley from Omaha where he has been attorney for the O. Skaggs system. He will resume tax and recording work from Greeley for the Nebraskan Colorado Wyoming Utah Nevada Idaho Montana and Washington area. The Nixons plan to move into 1424 Twelfth Avenue, now occupied by the H. B. Ingles, and expect to depart Omaha on September 20. The Ingles have not decided where they will relocate.

Alamosa to Dedicate Big Airfield Armistice Day

Alamosa in the San Luis Valley plans a large airfield dedication on Armistice Day. About 7500 dollars were raised via subscriptions led by the Kiwanis club. Lions club supports beet sugar industry development with cooperation from the Denver Rio Grande, and Arkansas Valley entities plan tests on beet byproducts for cattle feeding and pulp uses.

County to trade motorcycle for new Ford roadster

County commissioners agreed Tuesday to dispose of a police motorcycle used by the traffic officer and buy a new Ford roadster for traffic work. The Ford becomes the third Model A in county service, with Sheriff Robinson's department already using two touring cars for detective work.

Potter brothers win tuition prize from magazine

Ralph and Floyd Potter earned tuition support through a magazine scholarship contest with a local rep, C. R. Doe ter Pho seholaswhpy. They gained 540 subscription points to secure tuition payments and income for each month, while planning summer work. The program has grown from 31 students in 1919 to over 1,500. Realtor Charged with Larceny of Holstein Cow

Frank Zilerle, a focal real estate broker, was charged with larceny in a case filed in Elbert English court. The complaint alleges he stole 28 yailes of a Holstein heifer valued at 100 dollars. Frank B. Perry swore to the complaint as the aggrieved party. Aubrey Boomer, English pro, won the French Open golf championship for the fourth time, defeating Archia Competen by one stroke in a 36 hole final, with Boomer finishing 141 to 142.
