Burglars Enter Two Homes and Are Routed by Cane

Intruders broke into the Weaver and Fitch residences last night, taking a Swiss watch, cash, and papers from the Weaver home and an overcoat, hat, gloves, and fountain pen from the Fitch residence. A third target at Gilbert’s home was frightened away by a cane swing as the intruder leaped from a window. W. S. Gilbert heard the disturbance and sighted the intruder. Police found no clues and no arrests were made.

Mrs. Smith to Wed Milliken in Arkansas Marriage

Mrs Amanda Smith, a Widows and Widowers club member, will marry Milliken in Arkansas after postponing the ceremony to settle her local interests. The wedding was arranged by correspondence begun with publicity from The Republican. Mrs Gadd accompanied her to Denver.

Greeley orders carload of 20 inch iron pipe

A city orders a carload of 20 inch iron pipe for water works to fix breaks in the main line especially where the line runs through ditches and wooden pipe is exposed. Police report eleven arrests last week for offenses from disturbance to speeding. Oscar Koch resignation accepted. Floyd Preston to fill vacancy. Street cement district No 18 plans sidewalk work. council to meet October 1.

Boy Recovering After Knife Accident In LaSalle

From Denver word comes that X Benoit the LaSalle boy injured when a knife slipped from his hand and struck his eyeball is recovering. He will be brought home tomorrow and sight in the eye is expected to be saved. The accident occurred while he was cutting weeds and the blade struck the lad.

Lumbermen Deny Charges in Weld County Case

The thirty nine lumber dealers respond to the state in a Weld County district court with denials and long filings. They state the Colorado and Wyoming Lumber Dealers association is a non profit group with objectives to disseminate information and support retail lumber dealers. The case will proceed to trial October 21 with preliminary matters cleared.

Firestone Plans Inaugural Miners and Farmers Jubilee

Firestone Colorado prepares for the first annual miners and farmers jubilee on September 30. George Hall leads arrangements as visitors from nearby towns are expected. The town, in a rich coal field with seven mines, also centers a thriving farming district. District attorney George Carlson will deliver the main address along with other speakers and a long slate of athletic events with prizes donated by local businessmen.

Fine Show at Sterling Heads to Greeley

One of the best vaudeville shows in Greeley plays the Sterling tonight and tomorrow night. The Marine Band will appear October 8 afternoon, with a guaranteed program and evolving acts including magic, two educated dogs, Ruth Chandler, moving pictures, and other features. Manager W F Stephens says the program changes nightly.

Water Right Hearings Reopened For Additional Evidence

Judge N F Graham orders Referee W R Kelly to reopen adjudication cases for further evidence from ditches and reservoirs. Hearings set in Greeley from October 17 to 23, including new claims from reservoirs completed since last March. This may be final chance to present evidence on rights.

Man Struck by Train While Reaching for Hat

Hiram Fox, 35 to 40, unmarried, was struck by an iron step on the engine tender of passenger train No. 104 near Fort Lupton while attempting to recover his hat blown from him. He was thrown about fifty feet and died en route to hospital in Denver. Coroner T. G. Macy had the body at Greeley and undecided on an inquest. Fox was an uncle of Edgar Fox formerly of Greeley now in Missouri. a sister Mrs L Stevens lived in Greeley. Six witnesses described the accident. the train did not stop. Dr D J Horton treated the injured man aboard the train.

Masons Lodge Receives State Charter in Johnstown

Johnstown lodge No. 140 A F and A M was granted a charter by the grand lodge after a year under dispensation. Forty members, with J Howard Kennedy as worth master and A J Swanson and Daniel Parkins as wardens, attended along with Grand Master Simonson Grand Secretary Jacobson and Grand Lecturer Cooper.

Matrons and Maids Rely On Gym Classes For Grace and Health

Greeley hosts women only fitness program led by Miss Mary E. Schenck of the Teachers college. The Young People's federation sponsors sessions at Park church gymnasium near little grocery for all interested. Classes include folk dances drills marches and indoor games to improve carriage and erectness.
