Five Killed in State Traffic Weekend Toll Rises

The Associated Press reports five more deaths on southern Colorado roads over the weekend. Among the victims: Jack D. Shores, 74, of Austin Connecticut, killed near Delta Hospital from head injuries. A second collision on Highway 98 east of Tiesta left Gallus J. Ameerling, 68, uninjured driver, as the other party. A separate crash on U.S. Highway 288 near Saguache killed Delia Horacio Espinosa, 40, and his wife Soloma, 38, while their children Daniel, 3, and Ruby, 2, sustained minor injuries. Abedon Oliver Galegos, 27, Mintura, escaped with minor injuries. Antonia Gallegos, 54, Minturn, suffered a fractured leg and possible internal injuries. A southbound car driven by Merlyn Jesse Manter, Center, collided with the Gallegos auto. Manter was not injured. In a early Sunday wreck near Cowdrey, Marjorie V. Ashley, 39, and her daughter Carlene, 21, died, with Fred Dennis Ashley, 18, hospitalized, as fog and darkness blamed for the crash.

Denver Police Turn Over Escapees from Pueblo

Denver authorities turned two escapees from the Colorado State Hospital at Pueblo to county deputies and the state penitentiary. Oliver Jierrera, 38, to begin a burglary sentence. Lanis Vallejos, 24, to face murder trial for the June 12 slaying of Dionicto Sanchez Jr., in Denver.

Four-Lane Crash Near Evans Injures Family and Teens

A Kersey man Elmer Tokay Alles 36 and his three children along with two Gretley boys suffered injuries in a four-lane collision at the Evans edge at 10 50 a m on Sunday. Ava Alles 7 sustained a fractured pelvis and punctured bladder and was moved from Weld County General to Children's Hospital in Denver in critical condition. Other injured were Alma Alles 3 Tony Alles 4 Alma 9 Gilbert Barelo 18 and Charley Barelo 11 with head cuts and bruises. The crash occurred as Gilbert Barela 18 drove north on US 6 and Alles 36 headed east across the highway at the Garden City area. Both cars a 1956 Chevrolet and a 1982 Ford ended in a borrow pit after colliding at the intersection.”

Last Pioneer Family Member Dies Here Mrs Sela Boyd Kester

Mrs. Sela Boyd Kester 60 of 910 Eleventh Street, last member of a pioneer family that arrived in Greeley in 1870, died Sunday at Weld County General Hospital after six weeks ill health. Born April 9, 1877 in Greeley to Sarah and David Boyd, she descended from early settlers who came from Michigan. Her family home at 1312 Eleventh Street stands nearby. Survived by Lyle Kesler of Danvers and Irving Paine of Growley, with funeral services set for Wednesday at the Thompson Funeral Home and Grove Cemetery interment.

Mrs. J. M. B. Petrikin Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. J M B Petrikin a longtime Greeley resident and musical figure died after a long illness. She was born to Wilda R Notcross and came to Greeley with the Calon Colony in 1870. Surviving are her daughter Nancy Tewksbury of La Jolla California a brother Joseph Norcross of Grants Pass Oregon a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 30 pm in Macys Drawing room with Linn Grove interment. Memorials may be sent to the First Church of Christ Scientist building fund.
