Students and townspeople organized a contest to raise funds. At the start, each group selected ten salesmen to carry on the drive for a special prize awarded to the unit disposing of the most tickets.
Gilcrest officials announced the opening of schools on Tuesday September 30 for the first term. Superintendent Ray H Brannaman outlined staff assignments including Miss Lonh Young as supervisor and Miss Etta Judd and Miss Geneva Kelmes as intermediate and primary supervisors respectively.
In the Junior Fair at Greeley Platteville schools earned notable honors. Carl Marshdey took second and Paul Cox third in a group of 60 boys judging. Agricultural entrants won many ribbons including firsts for barley, wheat, cabbage, and rabbits by Glen Harper, Roland Miller, Tommy Lopez, and Gordon Anderson.
Platteville schools earned 16 first second and third place ribbons as students took on leadership roles. John Gray senior president Helen Sullivan junior president Donald Allsup Hophermore Brea Iasi and Paul Cox freshman president named. Athletic commission names Henry Walker manager Gerald Blarr Marie Clawson Tommy Lopez Mildred Jerome Donald Harper Carl Markley Dlaina Miller Virginia Biggs. Ex-officio members Mr Strong and Mrs Henderson. Friday opens conference ball game with Union High Adams Cliff at 3 pm. Practice games arranged with Merl Lupton and Milliken for early dates. Bears expect a fast season speedball against Union High after pre season forms shown at Junior Waly tourney. Team: Buds D Harper Morgan R Miller center Bruce halfbacks Brown G Harper Lopez William altback O Markley guards Walker Coxe Curtis Vesmera forwards J Gray D Milley. Lucas school upper grades organize a reading club with officers Carl Hergert president Winifred Anderson vice president Clara Nix secretary Clifford Gustafson reporter. weekly meetings include student reports on articles from The Corn Huskers and How Butterflies Make Caterpillars, among others.
La Salle school pupils win several prizes at the Junior Fair with top entries in charcoal watercolor and poster work. Teacher Ming Rath Erickson receives praise for guiding the art students and listing prizewinners such as Rudolph Bolg Glenada Lewis Clyde Christian Roy Spellman Junior Mead Clarence Teruger Bernice Larson Avis Bentley Harriett Gels in various categories.
The senior class at Greeley City High won the annual season football ticket ante contest, selling the most tickets to earn a prize of $10 for their treasury. Oliver Parker supervised the sales, noting more tickets were sold than last year and totaling 321 dollars in tickets.
Third grader Martha Vogel earned third place in water color for fifth grade. Rub on Zellar took second in crayon for fifth grade. Helen Bauer placed first in writing for fourth grade. La Sala captured first in best group display.
La Salle, Sept 23. Speedball boys won $10 at Weld County Junior Fair. They voted to buy a first aid kit for the school and future trips. Kit from FPC Mann Greeley contains 27 items.
