Denver Chamber Guests of Weld County Fair

Nearly two hundred prominent Denver residents visit the Weld county fair on the final day, with a special train arrival, luncheon, and exhibits. Mayor Speer addresses the crowd after tours, while the day showcases Hodgson’s large agricultural display and various prize exhibits including record track times and unusual crops.

Farmers Race Dominates Afternoon Track Events

In the farmers’ race six riders competed, Gordie McMillan led the field on an old gray nag and won a dog trot after easily beating rivals. A “ringer” attempt by M Morgan failed as McMillan’s horse finished the circuit first. Other heats ended by noses, with spectators noting the harness events were more engaging and Barnenville featured a mounted rider on a das ny stallion.

Cattle Show Delights at County Fair With Record Entries

A. M. McClenahan reports a dramatic rise in cattle on display, with over four times as many head as the previous fair. The Agricultural college sent Shorthorns Polls and Ayrshires while J. B. Painter showcased twelve Herefords. Harvey Parker displayed ten Guernseys and others from Billings Nichols Glazier and Timothy earned praise for dairy stock.

Livestock Parade Dazzles Fairgoers With Vast Exhibit

The Platteville band led a grand parade showcasing saddle horses with red and blue ribbons, carriage and draft horses, and a Morse Bros. float drawing acclaim. Beef and dairy cattle followed, including blue ribbon steer from Oo Frink, while surreys boasted banners about Colorado and Lupton.

Fruit in Ice Displays Cherry Branches at Hall

A trio of cherry branches with fruit sits frozen in ice in the Horticultural hall. The fruit, grown by J. W. Dillon and T. E. B. Rowe, has been in cold storage at the Greeley Ice plant since June 23, maintaining bright freshness.

Pocketbooks Found At Weld County Fair In Greeley

Pat Morgan announced in the judge's stand that three money pockets were turned in at the secretary's tent by honest fairgoers. Crowds cheered as officials said the items could be claimed by proper identification.

Mrs Frances McCalmont Dies After Long Illness

Fort Lupton reports the death of Mrs Frank McCalmont at age 35 after a lingering illness from tuberculosis. The Kansas City native, who moved with her husband to Fort Lupton a year ago for health, is survived by her husband and sister Miss Heinz. Remains sent east today for burial.

Farmers Hold Interesting Meeting

One of the largest conferences of the Farmer's Union ever held convened Thursday in the M. B. A. hall with delegates from the Northern district. The forenoon open meeting welcomed county farmers and unions. speakers included Andrew and Brandon of the State Coal company and R. N. Wagner of Berthond. Afternoon delegates numbered over 100 and elected district officers: Ben Preston of Fort Collins as chairman, R. M. Hawthorne of Eaton as vice president, John Gratton of Broomfield as secretary and treasurer.

Burned Milliken Man Admitted To Greeley Hospital

Jud Markle, badly burned in Milliken on Wednesday evening, was moved to Greeley hospital this morning by auto. He remains in serious condition but officials hope for recovery. Markle worked for Flood Motor company at Milliken and was burned when lighting a pipe after washing his hands in gasoline.

Fires rage in Laramie Peak district forests

Two forest fires have broken out in the Laramie Peak district near Cheyenne and are spreading over six square miles. Firefighters and volunteers have been rushed to the scene to try to check the flames.

In Montreal the Laurier government suffers a crushing defeat as the Liberal majority is wiped out. Robert L. Borden poised to become prime minister with a large parliamentary majority. La Salle Burglars Captured After Theft Spree

Two men aged 21 and 23, Frank Chapman and Ed Thompson, were captured within four hours of a burglary in La Salle. They allegedly stole bicycles watches knives razors cash and a large stock of goods from EB A Anderson hardware and Briggs Mercantile then fled to Kersey where they were pursued by local authorities. The pair were bound over to district court.

A party East of town honored Grandma Smith on her eighty seventh birthday last week. Relatives and many friends gathered at her home to cheer the estimable lady in her declining days.

Southern Pacific to Quit Furnishing Towels

An edict from Houston headquarters declares women travelers on Southern Pacific trains and boats must bring their own towels next year due to heavy losses. Officials cite 21000 dollars lost in toweling last year, with a single transcontinental run reporting 400 towels missing. Gill Schools Have Holiday

Gill district schools observed a holiday on September 22 to allow pupils and teachers to visit the Weld County fair. While off, the new high school building housed the installed hot air furnace heating plant, completing the heating system after the fall term began.

Planing Mill Accident Costs Four Fingers at Eaton

Jim Renfroe lost four fingers from his left hand while planing at the Aitcheson door mill in Eaton on Thursday afternoon. He was inexperienced with a buzz saw and cannot explain the mishap, saying he may have got his hand too near the blade. He is recovering well.

The Weld County grand jury, longtime in coming, is organized and ready to begin duties. Foreman William Mayher was chosen by the court, swearing in earlier than planned due to Judge Gamble's detention. Jurors will conduct secret deliberations on county affairs following petitions from the people.

Cup Winners to Celebrate Weld County Exhibit Victory

Eaton plans a grand Saturday celebration in honor of winning the large loving cup for the best agricultural exhibit at Weld County Fair. The winning display will be moved to a downtown conspicuous location, with a band concert and a fireworks display as officials express their jubilation.
