Deadly collision wrecks two trains near Niland California

In California a southbound Argonaut collided with the eastbound Californian on a siding near Tortuga, killing at least seven aboard and injuring many more. Investigators facing blamepoint say brakeman Jacobson may have violated safety rules by approaching the switch. Rescue crews rushed to the scene as engineers Mason and Parsons survived, while officials scurried to reroute schedules.

Rev Paterson to Be Installed at Met Presbyterian

Rev Paterson will be installed as pastor of Met Presbyterian in Greeley on Wednesday at 7 20 PM in a formal service. The occasion marks the crossing session of Boulder Presbytery with Rev Randolph McCluggage of La Salle presiding. The church choir led by Wil Ramley will sing and Mrs Lucy Friend Remley will perform. Charge to the pastor by Rev Powell of Brush and Dr Leon Stewart of Port Collins. Rev Warry Heinecke of Greeley delivers the sermon on The Right Brin(h)ssis. Members urged to attend. a 60 cent alinna will precede the service. Presbytery sessions start Tuesday evening with business meetings Wednesday. Plumb Fires Road Man In Aftermath of Primary

Thames Vaughan road foreman at Fort Lupton, under County Commissioner Charles C. Plum, was fired after the recent primary. Road Overseer Geil Wards removed both Vaughan and Plum. Plum denied politics were sole cause, citing other reasons. Abstracted votes show Plumth with 51 lines in Lupton precincts versus 221 for opponent Fred Ford.

No Diversion Jobs Warned By Welfare Chief Pulliam

Larimer county welfare director warned there are no jobs available for workers on the Colorado Big Thompson water diversion project. Families have come seeking work, but Pulliam said relief is unlikely as they are not eligible under state rules requiring one year in state and six months in county for local residency.

Beet Growers to Meet Sugar Section Chiefs in Chicago

National Beet Growers Association President Charles M. Kearney announced that about a dozen Western beet grower directors will travel from Greeley to Chicago on Monday, Sept. 20, to confer with sugar section officials about allocating beet acreage for 1939. Dr. Joshua Bern will be among administration officials at the meeting, with representatives from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana present to discuss dividing the allotment and securing a fair share for all states. Local Grealey Folk To Meet Canadian Tour Caravan

Delegation of Grealey businessmen led by Nelson Reynolds and Reese Wilkinson will greet a goodwill caravan from Prince Albert to Mexico along Highway 8b. Beasley Pushes Beet Field Union Drive in Colorado

Beasley, president of the Agricultural Workers Union in Colorado, opened a campaign in Greeley to organize beet field workers for the fall harvest. Two Ragtown Residents On Larceny Probation

Two Ragtown youths, Tino Crnelas and Joe Montoya, both 19 to 20, pleaded guilty to a larceny charge while on probation in 1986. District Judge Gland & Coffin ordered their probation revolved for failure to file monthly reports, as they did not respond to notices. The case involves legal proceedings and a separate civil action brought by Charles J. Tawalig of Windsor against U S Mutual Insurance Co. over alleged securities conversion, transferred to Denver on venue change.

Hurricane Off Cape Hatteras

Sept 20 report from Jacksonville says northeast storm warnings posted along the North Carolina coast and a hurricane of great intensity was expected east of Cape Hatteras tonight. The center of the storm lay about 309 miles east of Yoro Beach, Pa, with movement north-northwest. Police report Kyre Wades, 21, of Kentucky was arrested for drunken driving.

Prague Promises Soviet Aid in Sudeten Crisis

Prague and Prague government officials indicated a Soviet promise to aid Czechoslovakia if Germany moves on the Sudetenlands, while Britain and France proposed a Chamberlain Daladier plan.
