W C Thomas presents the 1911 report noting a large cash balance and extensive disbursements. Beginning on July 1 1911 the held funds totaled 50248 67 county and 2041 04 district plus 629 70 in other categories. Receipts from general fund apportioned 264518 00 plus 103829 45 from other sources totaling 473933 94. Disbursements included teachers wages 183841 33 fuel and current expenses 65793 94 sites buildings and permanent improvements 296 73 temporary loans and interest 9360 44 redemption of bonds 9360 44 interest on bonds 14693 40 abatement and collection fees 10576 94. Erie reports rising prospects to open the state coal mine with $4,100 of $5,000 subscribed to fund equipment. Union Pacific agrees to build a spur to the mine and J L Wilson has drawn a tipple plan. If accepted, the 44 ft 4 in high tipple with a large platform would allow continuous hoisting for about 1,000 tons daily.
State Veterinarian Yard warns of a spreading horse illness likely meningitis from forage fungus. He advises moving horses to dry feed, withholding surface water, and burning carcasses of any dead, as the livestock board enforces quarantine across state lines with patrols and sheriff cooperation. A blood test by the state chemist may identify the cause to curb the outbreak.
Special to The Republican Fort Lupton September 16 haste almost cost the life of Edith Poe 11 daughter of Mr and Mrs P P Poe. She crawled between freight cars at the crossing instead of waiting pulled by a bumpers caught her skirt on a rod thrown forward striking her face on the rail a serious cut bruising her eyes and rendering her unconscious. Her sister with her dragged her from the rail and summoned aid. She regained consciousness hours later. Several stitches were taken and she will probably be marked for life. Edith Poe is a niece of 8 S Poe of Greeley.
Burlington construction crews remain active near Hudson though not on the Box Elder bridge which will be finished soon. They are working on a smaller nearby bridge widened for double tracks to accommodate future rail work.
Chester A. Foster and Miss Anme Rasmussen of Greeley have been issued a marriage license.

O C Kent of this place learned by chance during a drive from Cheyenne to Greeley that his brother, long unseen for over ten years, lives in Oelwein Iowa. A reunion is expected soon at either his brother’s home or in this state after the accidental identification.

Montaville Woodworth aged 79 who built wealth through Alaska ventures traveled from Los Angeles with his wife to Eaton Colorado where their children await. A postmaster clue in Pesatum Illinois and war department records led to the reunion after seventeen years of separation and effort.
The Milliken Mail, managed by RE B Woods, appears in larger form with an eighteen page edition and a promise of a bigger harvest festival issue next week. Woods, new to Milliken, is an experienced newspaper man aiming to make the publication a success.
Noted singer Kitty Cheatham will perform at the old opera house in Greeley on November 25 under the Fortnightly Musical club. The event, likely the club’s only public concert this year, aims to reach local children and adults alike with her negro melodies and child songs. Her simple style and strong voice are praised by audiences.
William Wolf, a local doctor, was kicked in the side by an impatient horse. He suffers possible serious internal injuries and is receiving medical care in Nunn on September 16.

Tiling for the culverts on the auto road between Hudson and Denver has arrived and work will proceed rapidly. The project aims to create one of the finest highways in the state and will extend east to the state line.
H. E. Hogue editor of the Eaton Herald returned Saturday from Idaho Springs where he was taking baths for rheumatism and reports improvement in condition.
A Loveland circulated petition calling for a grand jury to investigate county affairs was filed with Larimer County District Attorney Carlson. It lists 100 to 200 signers from both major parties and asks an immediate, nonpartisan inquiry into past county board conduct and rumors.
