Greeley horses lead Colorado race meets with many prizes as sixty entries head to the Weld County fair. Nordica the three year old pacer owned by Super Bros wins at Loveland in 2 20 r this season. Orange Hat owned by Titler captured a 1000 purse at Rocky Ford and Leve land. Archie Camp with Espire won the 2 26 pace at Fort Morgan in 2 16 and Lacy Hubutt took the 2 40 trot at Longmont. Messick Rites Held In Greeley for Jesse W Messick

Funeral services for Jesse Winfred Messick were held at his parents home with Rider E. Farnsworth of Champion Colorado officiating. Interment followed in Linn Grove cemetery. Born March 1 1898 in Yedian Territory, he came to Greeley eight years ago. He contracted scarlet fever last March leading to inflammatory mutism and death.

Mrs. R K R McCullough and Daughter Visit Col Jones

Mrs. R K R McCullough and her daughter Lois of Sparland Illinois concluded a ten day visit with Col and Mrs A W Jones and departed for Los Angeles. Mrs McCullough is Col Jones sister.

Greeley Grays Beat Hofbrau Team In Fast Game

The Greeley Grays defeated the Hofbrau team of Denver 4 to 0 in a brisk contest in this city yesterday. Hightower was dominant with only six strikeouts as the Grays' defense backed him well. Hofbrau failed to solve him for six innings before finally succumbing. A good crowd attended, and despite yesterday’s scheduled finale, Hofbrau may return to play again in two weeks.

Experiment School 18 To Be Established In Milliken

Colorado State Normal School plans two model schools in the state. One will be located at Milliken with Dr. Z X Snyder in charge and Miss Edna Haskett as principal, assisted by four staff. The aim is to test pedagogical theories for potential adoption elsewhere. The second site is undecided, likely in this region.

Boy Suffers Broken Nose During Ball Game

Victor Baird aged 14 sustained a broken nose while playing catch last Saturday afternoon as he failed to judge the ball’s speed. It struck his nose, splitting it open and breaking it. A doctor was summoned.

J Max Clark and J T Clough In Auto Accident

At the corner of Seventh Avenue and Eighth Street yesterday afternoon Mrs J T Clough and J Max Clark were involved in a near collision. Clark's car sustained some damage but no injuries were reported and the accident was described as unavoidable.

Wyatt’s auto crashes into ditch on bridge south of Evans

Harry Wyatt drove his automobile into a ditch on a bridge south of Evans last Friday evening. the car was badly smashed but he escaped injury. The bridge has been a danger to motorists, with several incidents this year. His machine was towed to the city for repairs after being pulled from the ditch. This is his second accident in recent months, following a collision with a horse and buggy.

Mrs. H. H. Borgman and two children arrived Sunday to join Mr. Borgeman who has resided here for two months. They will make their home at 1014 Tenth Street. Mr. Borgeman is the manager of Ramsay Dry Goods Company.

At a regular meeting the Weld County Ministerial Association held its annual officer election. New officers are A. B. Dubber as president, J. M. Wyle as vice president, and R. G. Chase as secretary and treasurer. A forthcoming meeting will appoint committees and set the year’s program.

Union Pacific Officials Inspect Weld County Branch Lines

R A Smith of Omaha and two Union Pacific officials with Agent Genge toured the Greeley area over local branch lines. They praised the crop prospects and announced planned improvements on the Union Pacific branches to meet Weld county growth, noting steady settlement and new residents choosing the area.

Thieves Break Into Carr Phillips Store After Camping Party

Thieves burglarized the Phillips merchandise store in Carr last Saturday night and carried off blankets quilts razors knives a ten pound candy box and other items valued in the several hundred dollars. Deputy Sheriff Charlies Peterson traced similar boxes along the road and suspects a camping party that left Carr Saturday. The party is believed to be near Greeley and headed toward Denver.

Fine Hits Lonergan for Assault in Evans Court

Dr. F P Lonergan of Evans was fined 80 dollars plus costs for assaulting 19 year old Oscar DeMarco in Evans in late August. C Horton and Ross Tennant also paid 10 dollars with costs after pleading guilty. DeMarco alleged the beatings were motivated by Lonergan and his allies over alleged stories DeMarco says he did not spread. DeMarco sought police help after the August 21 attack and alleged threats to force a signed statement. Lonergan claimed he cared for DeMarco as a father during June, while DeMarco says the trio plotted the assault to claim property and control of him.
