Ayer of the Union Pacific visited LaSalle to negotiate purchasing a large west side land tract. With the railroad already having right of way, locals anticipate the establishment of car shops here. One major owner was pressed to name a price within two weeks for multiple lots.
Local chatter in La Salle centers on plans for car shops as a looming economic boost. Notary from Greeley and area businessmen conducted private afternoon dealings amid reports of Union Pacific roadwork and town advancement.
Mrs Roy Graham and her infant left Wednesday for Hereford Texas to visit a sister, Mrs William Brodie, reported in local notes.
The Normal training school opens Tuesday with good attendance. Eight grades in the training department and three new faculty members join this year. Prof. Ernest Horn assists grammar. Prof. Randolph leads seventh and eighth. Miss Ethel Dillon from Los Angeles and a Columbia graduate directs third and fourth grades. The Normal proper, High School, and kindergarten commence next week with outlooks for high enrollment.
A Platteville National Bank window displays local farmer exhibits including George Hodgson Ray McClare Luke Benoy Mr Carick and Mr Filson. Platteville products won ribbons at Weld County Fair last week and the bank shows them as evidence of farming progress.
Mrs Mary Dunn will celebrate her 7th birthday Friday at her son C H Dunn's home in Denver Street Tenth Avenue joined by three of her five children. A family dinner marks the day with daughters from Denver and other relatives expected to attend while a son from Chicago and another daughter from Los Angeles cannot be present.
Theft of melons on a LaSalle area farm led threshing outfit owner RK Maney to sue farmer Michael Sand for $200. Sand refuses to pay while Maney seeks attachment on Sand’s grain. The incident occurred while the threshing crew operated on Sand’s property.
Weld county exhibits were packed and shipped to Denver for the Colorado Interstate fair. Secretary J. F. McCrery of the Commercial club expects Weld to win the silver trophy again, noting improved, broader exhibits and superior dry land entries. One-way fares from many Colorado points are set for Sept 12 to 20. The fair promises more features and a better program than last year.
Edward Henry Harriman, the Arden New York railroad magnate and financier, died at 2 35 PM after a week of fever. He controlled more railroads than any other figure, including the Union Pacific and New York Central, with plans spanning vast systems. His influence and holdings extended across numerous lines.
In Greeley a milk shortage leaves fourteen quarts for $1 and near-impossible access for non customers. Residents rely on neighbors with cows as demand outstrips supply. High feed and land costs push up prices and hinder dairy expansion as long hours deter workers. Milkmen remain busy and worn rather than grouchy.

G Thompson Margaret Thompson and others over a $1 750 mortgage on the Thompsons former home in Greeley The Thompsons allege misrepresentation in a prior real estate trade with Bailey of San Diego Calif They seek to rescind while Bailey seeks foreclosure of his mortgage making this claim one of the term s most interesting in the district court.
The Greeley and Northern Railway and Utility Company sued in federal court in Denver to block Union Pacific from using or interfering with surveys along Wildcat Mountain northwest of Platteville. The 1904 survey secured rights including a 50 acre tract where bluff meets the Platte River. UP began condemnation action over a year ago but has not prosecuted. If UP prevails the four mile section near the Platte would be hard to build around due to the river east and a rock bluff west, making alternate routes costly.
Platteville opened for the new term with 106 pupils enrolled. Principal is W. Reid from Promise City Iowa and assistant principal is Mrs Anna M Shaw from Denver. Intermediate and primary grades are taught across eleven grades in Platteville schools.
Reverend Cooper is welcomed back to Windsor for a sixth year serving the local Methodist church. He has many warm friends among congregants who are glad to have him back in the community.
In Fort Lupton a small immigrant named Lepper told Marshal Williams he and others were seeking work and praying they would not find it. Lepper was directed to likely employment and found a job within about thirty minutes as many in Greeley claim to be searching for work.
After weeks of silence two men finally sought employment with the marshal's office. Both men were eager and quickly secured work, marking a notable change in the job scene.
Special to the Dairy Tribune Windsor, Sept. 9. A hospital costing 12000 is under construction in Windsor, the first in town and the only northern county facility aside from Greeley. The white pressed brick building will have a modern layout and an equipped operating room. Drs. T. B. Gormly and E. I. Raymond spearhead the project, seen as a significant community enterprise.
Harry E. McAfee of Greeley has been chosen traveling auditor for Colorado Telephone Co with Denver HQ and departs today. He is son of the county assessor deputy and a Greeley High School graduate. William Morrison will replace him as bookkeeper. Jessie Bragg becomes bookkeeper. Olive Bragg becomes public office clerk. Selection made by R. R. Reid, company general auditor.
Greeley’s Fortnightly Musical club announces a winter season headlined by Mme. Schuman Heink on January 10. The program also lists Apollo Club and the Flongaly String Quartet, with a sixty‑voice ladies chorus under J. C. Wilcox.
On Thursday over 10000 pounds of tomatoes arrived in Greeley. The LaSalle warehouse storing crates Wednesday night was full and some fruit was moved to a coal shed for safety. A watchman kept guard last night to deter theft and spoil any plans for morning tomato spoiling.
A cloud burst like storm drenches Fort Lupton. A man and a team narrowly escaped drowning in the Platte River as it rose quickly. Streets flooded and harvests delayed. A Japanese boy employed by E. Nitta helped avert a river tragedy with prompt action.
A two horse team with a loaded wagon nears the rising river at a ford as a German farmer nearby and a Japanese passerby intervene. The Japanese swimmer frees the animals from the harness and helps the driver reach the shore. The rescuer’s name remains unknown. Rain benefits crops but delays harvest across the district.
Greeley M. D. s will attend the meeting September 14 to 16 as Estes Park hosts Colorado’s State Medical Society for its 39th annual convention. Doctors from Greeley plan to join discussions on tuberculosis and future work of the medical fraternity. Officers will be elected at opening, with papers read on tuberculosis. readers include Dr Eugene Dupuy and others from Denver, Colorado Springs, St. Louis, and Las Animas.
Freight shipments from Greeley are lighter than those just received. The shipping season runs late due to crops maturing later this year but business is up over last year. The shipments leaving Greeley Wednesday included one car of five, two cars of flour, three cars of merchandise, and three cars of cabbage.
