Beet fields in the Greeley Eaton and Windsor districts start harvest with 3 000 laborers. First day deliveries top 400 tons to three factories. 00 farmers grow beets for the three plants, 325 for Greeley. Slicing may begin next Monday after a plant overhaul and track improvements. officials predict a strong tonnage and finish before year end.
Over 55000 dollars worth of crops have been harvested from the Oasis ranch west of Grover. Henry Thompson and Phillip Brauck own 1200 acres with 20000 sacks of potatoes from 175 acres and 10000 bushels of grain from 800 acres. 500 tons of alfalfa were cut and 800 head of sheep along with hundreds of cattle will be fattened for market this winter. The irrigation system dates back twenty five years and the property has a history as a sheep ranch. Mayor Coggins of Phoenix, and Mr and Mrs J H Deen of Har Ja were visitors in Greeley en route home from Seattle.
Nunn Oct 5 The district voted 189 to 4 to approve a contract with Laramie-Poudre Reservoirs & Irrigation Co for a private capital irrigation system tapping the Cache la Poudre and Laramie rivers. Bonds of 5.1 million dollars at 6 percent will fund 400 miles of canals and 40 reservoirs across 125000 acres.
The Fortnightly Musical club plans its opening event of the season on Thursday evening at the Congregational church. The program features organ works and choral pieces by Guilmant, Wolstenholme, Lemare, MacDowell, and Nevin, with soprano Miss Luella Daven recently taking a school position in Oakley, Idaho.
Greeley Commercial Club prepares a second Get Acquainted trip with 50 plus local business leaders visiting Farmers Spur Bracewell Windsor Severance Eaton Ault Pierce Nunn and Lucerne. Lunch at Severance. Schedule starts at 9 a.m. from Greeley with multiple short stops and return by evening. Car owners urged to notify the club secretary and gather at Camfield hotel by 8:45 Friday.
The Elberta peaches remain available but shipments are stored a week and unusually ripe. Prices range 90 cents to 1.10 a box. Plums steady 2 to 4 cents a pound. Home grown apples fair, California Bellefleur at 2 a box. Pichig and grapes plentiful 35 cents a basket or 3 for 1. California grapes good 50 cents a basket. California quinces unchanged at 3 pounds for 25 cents or 2.50 a box. Cranberries 2 quarts for 25 cents.
Oppenheimer of the Ser Cigar company arranges to receive by special wire the score at the end of each inning of the World Series between Pittsburg and Detroit. First game at 2 o clock Friday with news at 1. End of each inning will show batteries total score bases on balls and errors on a district bulletin.
The final large tree on the Camfield hotel west front was felled today. The removal improves the hotel’s skyline and alters the downtown view. George Carlson, district attorney, is in Greeley today.
Denver’s Rev. A. B. Pierce in town promoting Colorado Children’s Home Society adoptions. He seeks babies and helpers to care for homeless infants, noting the society has placed over 800 children since 1892 and is non sectarian. Pierce will be in Greeley today and tomorrow to connect with interested families.
Dr and Mrs B Woodcock hosted an auto party Monday evening for the nurses of the Greeley hospital The guests relaxed and forgot pains for the night Mr Turner and Dr Woodcock drove two cars a supper followed at Eaton Attendees included Norma Carter Su Beattie Nancy Dill Pearl Wilson and Alice Brewer.
County Judge Bradfield releases a report on receipts and expenditures of the county court showing rising business. From 1906 to 1909 earnings and collections increase from about 3,800 to over 7,000 dollars, nearly doubling in the last two years.
Mrs. Margaret Strohauer died Sunday at the home of her son on Fourteenth avenue. She was born in Germany and was 69 years old. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at Macy's undertaking par.

The new Trust Company building at Seventh Street and Eighth Avenue begins with over a thousand floor joists the largest on a ground floor in Greeley. FP F Gordon, the contractor, clears out Guicfest and Clayton yards for beams and trims the pieces, with terra cotta brick delayed to spring. The Camfield building opposite on Fifth Avenue also faces delays, likely pushing completion toward winter.
Peter Jensen, a stranger seeking work, walked into an incoming U P train at Lucerne last Monday evening. He stood on the depot platform as the train approached and, with the calm of a somnambulist, stepped into the engine area. The locomotive struck him on the forehead and hurled him across the track as the train moved slowly, leaving him alive but badly wounded.
The Weld County Sabbath School association holds its annual convention at United Presbyterian church in Greeley starting Thursday. At a Monday evening meeting in the Eighth grade building the public school teachers voted to adopt a reading course for the coming year prepared by Superintendent C. B. E. Carter and the Normal School non resident committee. The program splits into graduate and undergraduate tracks with lectures from Normal faculty and courses covering history sociology biology pedagogy and advanced psychology.
E K B Coulter deputy state food inspector spoke at Greeley High School on pure food inspection and law progress. He noted reduced use of injurious ingredients and focus on adulteration, with the department enforcing standards and targeting unsafe substitutes.
