The case of Thomas J. Leftwich charged with assault with intent to kill opens under Judge Allen in Fort Collins on a change of venue from Larimer County. Jury selection likely won't finish until late today or tomorrow morning.
The report previews a potential subornation of perjury trial for Thomas J. Leftwich after an assault with intent to kill case. Sheriff Carton of Larimer County issued subpoenas for E. M. Sandy and F. M. Alien, two penitentiary convicts said to have testified for Leftwich in exchange for payment. The July 4 1908 incident on a Colorado and Southern train near Loveland ended with disputes as Austin and companions prepared to alight. Continued to Page 4.
John Tremayne of near Greeley says a hired overseer neglected topping beets delaying delivery to Windsor factory by November 15. Tremayne claims he could not pay and had his ranch attached, leaving him penniless and unable to hire counsel.
Due to bad weather a called meeting at H. West home was sparsely attended. A committee of Mr. and Mrs. A A Woodbury will consult pioneers on wishes for the December banquet and arrange details. The banquet is planned for the Camfield hotel dining room once completed, likely mid December.
Frank Wisner aged 35 died by his own action in Trinidad. He had been a clerk in Greeley before leaving January. He left a troubled marital history and sent his family to Summitville Indiana. His body was found by a rooming house landlady yesterday morning. Wisner recently worked in a Trinidad dry goods store for nine months. His Indiana family has been notified.
Incorporation papers filed in Denver by the Colorado Beet Harvester company with $1000 capital. William C. Mauer Bayard Kaine and Albert J. Allen named as incorporators. The firm aims to manufacture and market a beet digger invented by Mauer and may establish a factory in Weld County. The device is billed as a world leading tool to reduce labor in beet harvesting and improve farmer profits. Plans for factory site to be announced.
The post office completed its move to new quarters after a day of moving fixtures. It will be the last move until the new federal building is finished, with many residents likely to wander briefly to the wrong corner as they adjust.
College authorities publish a pamphlet praising the late General William J. Palmer of Colorado Springs founder of Colorado College. Edited by Mary G. Slocum the tract includes tributes from distinguished educators and prominent Colorado Springs citizens.
The Apollo club of Denver will send about seventy performers to Greeley with Mrs. Bessie Dade Hughes as soloist for a concert next Thursday at the Opera House. Fortnightly club praise and local merchant support highlight a community effort to bring world class music to Weld County. Tickets rely on citizen backing to cover expenses, not profits.
Dainty Willie Hall known as Frank Hall and George Dunn is held in Greeley city jail on a kidnapping charge involving 17 year old Jeanette Dudley of Cheyenne. Police say Hall and Dudley left Cheyenne together and registered as spouses in Greeley before Dudley was recovered and returned home. Hall faces transfer to Cheyenne for trial with possible statutory charges if conviction fails.
Mayor George Houston will chair a district court room meeting at 7:30 PM to submit a constitution for the Associated Relief Society of Greeley. The committee includes Rev J J Lace C E Carter County Judge G H Bradfield O O Russell and R G Strong.
The committee urges all who can attend tonight in the district court room to discuss the formation and details of a proposed organization. City leaders from business, clergy, and education believe the effort is of supreme interest to Greeley and its people and may adopt definite plans this evening.
Milliken in Weld county a new town on the Denver Laramie & Northwestern railway will formally open December 18 with a band concert flag presentation and sports. An estimated 5 000 people are expected as lots go on sale and special excursion trains reach the scene. F L Clifton of Greeley has returned from Empire reservoir after nine weeks repairing headgates washed out earlier damaging nearby property. The reservoir covers 3000 acres and the repairs should allow full capacity against all water pressure.
Buster Brown and Tige performed at the Ramsay store event in Unity church auditorium last Saturday. The packed crowd adored the vaudeville acts and the enthusiastic reception suggests a strong interest in another visit.
One of the German consul’s Denver attorneys is assisting Greeley lawyers handling Fred Peil’s murder case of George Kerber. The attorney was not brought in by any influence of the German consul.

Henrietta Byrne aged nearly 100 dies at home in Littleton Colorado on Sunday afternoon. She was widely known in the community and leaves a long record of public service and family ties.
The best loved woman in the state and widow of Rev Francis Byrne passed away at 98. The Byrnes influenced many Episcopal parishes across Colorado including Trinity church in Greeley in 1871. Lester Smith of 804 Thirteenth Avenue is a grandson and received a telegram announcing his grandmother's death.
