Banking men report a substantial financial situation in Greeley with sound business conditions. Increased building and investment activity have led to large loans backed by on safest securities, though beet money paid today is not yet in reports. Local bankers say real estate investment and vibrant activity indicate a healthy, robust economy.
Babe Laird was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon against Ernest McCroney who lives sixteen miles east of Nunn. The court fined Laird three dollars plus costs after a late verdict. The quarrel at McCroney's ranch involved a rifle strike by Laird.
A large crowd watched the Greeley Arrows hand Fort Collins a 60 to 27 defeat in the season opener. The Lamb Feeders were short on experience with two players new to the game, while Greeley dominated from the start and showed championship potential. Special to the Daily Tribune. In Evans on November 20 Miss Ida Clothier Manitou addressed the women of the missionary division of the TorMea Presbyterian at Mrs A Sheoiad home. In the evening she spoke to the church youths gathered at the Pease home.
In a downtown incident on Friday night Cornelius Brown tried to cut a rope serving as a team’s halter. He severed an artery in one wrist and bled heavily until nearby bystanders and prompt aid helped control the wound before a doctor arrived.
Mrs. Jessie D. Page was elected president of the Weld County Teachers Association. L. Cowan of Fort Lupton is vice president, Maude Howard of Greeley secretary and treasurer, Eleanor Faye of Windsor on the executive committee. A new committee will study consolidating districts offering high school work, with members from the State Normal, Eaton, and local districts.
United States Secret Service agents under Chief Wilkie are in Greeley as part of a federal probe into the Great Western Sugar company tied to the American Sugar Refining trust. Officials visited law firms and prominent citizens and declined to discuss the inquiry. They plan to tour Fort Collins Longmont and Denver next, with charges alleging railroad pressure and trust law violations.
The Greeley Salvation Army will buy a store room at 7th Street opposite the army barracks to run a relief department with a free employment and information bureau. The free store will supply clothing bedding provisions and necessities to the worthy poor with some items sold to cover running costs.

Mrs C G Hearing's Twenty of the Congregational church ladies were entertained with a fried chicken dinner at the church Thursday by two members of the group. They spent the afternoon quilting and raised $20.70 from a sale of bags and fancy articles held Tuesday for the cafeteria supper.
Misses Lila Wheeler and Naoma Hunter hosted the Westminster guild and guests at Mr and Mrs J Smith Johnsons home Thursday. A short program featured a paper by Miss Emma Richey and Alaska. An eighty day evening with games and refreshments followed. About forty attended.
The Royal Highlanders met Thursday evening in Wagle Hall with strong attendance to greet State Deputy Freeman and Auditor Fribourg of Denver. The visitors spoke on the order’s work. a lunch was served and dancing followed to a late hour.

Rancher Carl McGraw of Grover reports a rapid boom in his district while in Greeley. He notes growth from one store and a barn two years ago to four stores, numerous residences, three banks, a hotel, and two land offices. He also cites rising land values and corn yields of ten to twenty bushels per acre this season.
Colorado will host a national apple exposition in Denver from January 3 to 8. Exhibits from across the country will be shown in the auditorium with representation from Greeley and Weld County.
The new law building presented to the University of Colorado by Senator Simon Guggenheim will be dedicated at Boulder next Wednesday afternoon at two oclock. A fitting ceremony will accompany the dedication.
