After over two hours the licenses committee failed to resolve if F B Roster and Company must follow the October ordinance on permits for wiring performed under contracts made before the measure. The dispute centers on applicability to pre existing contracts for church, post office, and theater work.
The city council debates a new ordinance about issuing individual permit job orders for contracts. Rosier’s firm holds major city projects like wiring the Catholic church post office and theater. Large contractors contend pre ordinance contracts should stand, council halts issuing further licenses, and no final decision was reached after lengthy discussion.
A unique mock wedding party was staged Tuesday at Miss Lil Man Darnaby’s home by the Berean Sunday school class of the Christian church honoring Miss Hilda South and Bert Sanders ahead of their December wedding. The playful ceremony featured a bride Lydia Ward and groom Les Taylor with a full bridal party, gifts for the couple, and late refreshments for about sixty attendees. Rev O O Petty visited Greeley during his stay with Mr. and Mrs. W B Starr.
Special to the Daily Tribune Severance Nov 17 Potatoes from the Severance Greeley district retail in Fort Collins at 1 25 with orders taken in advance. G W Bear hauls his potatoes to Collins and sells them there. He has more customers than he can supply and cold weather adds to his inconvenience but he says he is clearing enough to pay for his trouble.
Council grants permit to P W Goodrich trustee for a 63 by 87 foot church at Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Street as Camden heating duct line from Camfield Hotel approved with street repairs. Greeley Bottling Works may use city water via metered account. East side sewer bids to be re advertised as debated.
The Boston YMCA and nearby cities push major campaigns aiming for a combined eastern Massachusetts total of a million dollars for new buildings. Campaigns in Hannibal Missouri Calgary Alberta Albany Georgia Des Moines Ohio and other locales report strong early returns, with notable donations and jubilant rallies. Meanwhile Miss Gertrude Stark of Omaha travels to Denver with friends.
Edward G. Carlson a rancher five miles west of Greeley to Sweden with his wife and infant, plans to visit aged parents he left thirty years ago after arriving in America as a teen with little English. He built a farm in Colorado and for years sent support home. now he departs with their child to reunite with his birthplace and family.
A plan by J. C. Allen of Cheyenne to surprise his wife visiting his sister in Greeley matched a simultaneous scheme by Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Gibson to surprise Mr. Allen in Cheyenne. The three women and Myrtilla left Greeley and Cheyenne at the same time, ending in mutual astonishment.
Weather delays the costly Seventh avenue tramway bridge across No 3 ditch. Crews resume setting poles and ballasting track as concrete supports and iron spans are installed, with streetcar service expected weeks later than planned due to storms.
A tinner suffered a narrow head strike but survived the incident with injuries not considered fatal. Medical staff attended to him at the scene and he was transported for further evaluation.
E W Ireland, a timer for McArthur Hardware, fell thirty feet from the roof of a Ninth street building under construction by W B Woodruff. He landed on head and shoulders, was semi conscious, then revived with painful but non fatal injuries. Ice on the roof suspected as cause.
The Sons of the Revolution in Colorado announce a prize essay on Israel Putnam and his Revolutionary War services. Open to all Colorado high school and preparatory students with a 1776 word limit, signed pen name, principal’s affidavit of originality, submission due by February 1. Prizes include bronze medal and books totaling $20 for first place, $15 for second, and $10 for third.
The Colorado department commander John W. Wingate and staff were hosted by U. S. Grant Post No. 13 at First Presbyterian Church. Colonel W. W. Ferguson and Chaplain Smith attended. Wingate spoke, others commented, and Mrs. Fannie D. W. Hardin, national senior vice president of the W. R. C., also addressed guests. A social hour followed with refreshments provided by the post members.
Co. B. Brotherton of Flint Michigan and his sister Mrs. P W Billings of Denver spent Tuesday in Greeley visiting Mr and Mrs Robert Martin. The guests are friends of Mrs Martins mother from her Michigan girlhood days.
Leadville era report states three miners Frank Loftus James Hays and William Harts aged 30 to 40 unmarried froze to death Monday night while resting on a log after climbing to timberline near Hill Top mine. Bodies brought to Leadville as blizzard raged.
J W Wootten is to appear in police court tomorrow afternoon on a disturbance charge. He has previously attracted police attention and is said to struggle finding legal counsel, with authorities preparing evidence for a potentially broader case at the depot incident last week. He is currently on $190 bond and labeled an undesirables figure by local police.
Filings were made with the county clerk for the Lower Platte and Bever drainage ditch to move water from Morgan to Washington counties. With Platte River water, it will irrigate about 5,000 acres owned by B F Johnson and J Keehn. Project cost around $3,000. construction is underway. M Xo Gill serves as president and J B Youngquist as engineer.
Miss Ida Sampson of Peyton Colorado a student at the Normal was taken ill at the school Tuesday afternoon and removed to the hospital where she underwent an operation for appendicitis. She is reported doing nicely.
Severance November 17. Al Lewis purchases the northwest eighty belonging to the M. A. P. Jensen estate in the Smith district for 7500 dollars. W. T. Porter of Windsor acts as the real estate agent in the sale.
The Gr edley Red Sox travel to Fort Collins to face the YMCA tonight. Players Benton Rice Cooper Heighton Erickson Manager Cobb and Coach Fagerberg will make the trip as the team seeks a win after strong workouts.
A Woodruff building worker named Ireland slipped on the ice while finishing the day’s shift. As he tumbled from the edge he tried to grasp the roof but fell to the frozen ground. Doctors say his survival is a medical miracle after the fall.
The People vs James McLean ended with the jury discharged and the defendant dismissed. McLean faced charges of stealing and slaughtering cattle from Joseph Lee last June. Judge Garrigues ruled amendments introducing radical changes were not allowable after counsel for McLean moved for dismissal and the district attorney sought amendment.
In Floyd Louisiana on November 17 Clarence Compton a wealthy planter and his daughter are dead after a dispute over a trivial remark. Sylvester and Albert Owens sons of a prominent clergyman are jailed on suspicion of the shootings. Albert Owens says Compton insulted him about caring for his wife's relatives, an apology was demanded and not given, leading to the fatal shooting at Compton's home.
Lyman Cole aged 14 died in Arvada after travel for health relief. He was the son of Albert Cole a retired Denver attorney and suffered scarlet fever last spring. His aunts Misses Viola and Emna Cheatley of Greeley traveled to attend the funeral.
