CAPE CANAVERAL Fla. Two Army monkeys named Able and Baker were recovered alive after a Jupiter missile flight reaching 200 miles altitude and speeds to 10 000 mph. The nose cone landed 40 to 60 miles north of Antigua and both primates showed little injury with telemetry indicating stable heart and breathing rates. The mission aimed to study weightlessness effects to aid future manned orbital flights.

Fire Chief Brumley Retires After 37 Years Service
Fire Chief E A Brumley of Greeley retires June 1 after nearly 37 years with the department. He joined in 1922 as one of seven firemen, became assistant chief in 1925, and fire chief in 1937. Brumley, born Sept 10 1884 in Berryville Arkansas, married Belva Florence in 1917 and has two daughters. He helped organize the Greeley Firemen's Club and held state and national fire service posts. He plans to stay in Greeley and recover at home from recent illness. He recalls major fires on Dec 1922 at Christian Church and Harbaugh’s Shoe Store, noting losses and dangers.
