Grandfather Rescues Five From Harbor
Michigan City resident Kenneth Hawke, 43, a ironworker, bravely rescued five construction workers stranded on a grounded boat derrick in Michigan City Harbor. Braving 50 mile per hour gusts and 210 foot waves, Hawke reached the men via a crane boom and guided each to safety one at a time. All five were treated for exposure at Doctors Hospital. one suffered a back wrench. The stranded derrick is owned by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co of Chicago.

The Agriculture Department said farm land values have thinned in the central U S after last year’s downturn and prices elsewhere held steady or rose. Permit Issued For One Story Office Building
