Navy inquiry details capsized launch tragedy

Newport reports a navy inquiry found a 12 year old apprentice manned a launch that capsized in a storm. Fifteen dead and possibly two, with 25 missing, many rescued. Lt. J. W. I. Coleman testified he would not have sent the launch if he had known the coxswain switch. Seaman James J. Egler, 19, piloted the boat in place of Chester Lawes. Twenty six sailors were hospitalized but listed in good condition.

Frank Klein Dies Friday

Frank B Klein 65 of 1227 Ninth Avenue dies at Weld County Hospital at 9:21 p.m. Friday after a cerebral hemorrhage. He worked at Weld County Savings Bank since 1919 and rose to cashier in 1948. A WWI veteran, he served in the 82nd Army squadron and held posts in American Legion and Kiwanis. He was survived by a brother Everette Klein and sister Caddie Klein among others. Bernard Faller of the Longmont Times-Call was elected Colorado state chairman of the Associated Press yesterday, succeeding Joseph Lowe of the Grand Junction Sentinel. Service aptitude tests scheduled at Colorado State College

About 216 students were assigned to take the selective service aptitude test at Colorado State College Bur cati on Saturday with 236 present. Tests were supervised by Mrs Lata Lindbloom with Lieut Paul Clase assisting. Results are to be mailed to draft boards for scoring and will not be released to the college or students.
