Tiemann announces a Greeley radio repair training program with monthly stipends of 75 dollars for trainees. WAAC Recruiting Begins For Officer Candidate School

The War Department announced recruiting for the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps first officer candidate school will start tomorrow at regular army recruiting stations. About 450 candidates will be chosen for the initial training, which begins around July 15 at Fort Des Moines Iowa. Applicants must be United States citizens aged 21 to 35 with a high school education or equivalent. They may be married or single and will receive $50 per month along with uniforms and maintenance during training.

Opposition to lower draft age grows in Congress

Washington May 26 strong opposition developed to any move to lower the draft age from 18 to 19. Senator Hill of Alabama Democratic whip said he would oppose changes to selective service rules. Senator McNary of Oregon Republican leader predicted a lengthy senate controversy. Senator Taft said it would be better to use younger men in factories rather than in tanks, unless the army insists. Senator Shipstead suggested farm work for youths in school. Some argued lowering the age would disrupt schooling and essential jobs.

Washington May 26 The House Judiciary Committee approved a measure to subject labor unions to anti racketeering law prosecutions and to set stiff penalties for interference with commerce movement. The bill passed 9 to 3 though not naming unions, author Rep Hobbs of Alabama said.

Killed In Blast At Fisher Plant

Lanaing Mel May 26 At least two men were killed and three seriously injured in an explosion at the Fisher Reiny corporation plant engaged in war materials production. Fire was controlled.
