Colorado bill would open most criminal records briefly

The Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee approved an amended bill to open most criminal records to the public and news media for a limited period. The measure, sponsored by Rep. Robert DeNier, ends secrecy for official actions for two years after acquittal or dismissal, seals misdemeanors after five years and felonies after seven, and defines official action to include arrests and probation decisions. Colorado bill seeks 60 percent judge retention vote

First U.S. infant botulism case reported in Colorado

The Colorado Health Department announced a Glenwood Springs infant, about four months old, contracted the state's first recorded case of infant botulism last month. The child recovered after hospital treatment. CDC confirmation followed. Dr. Richard Keenlyside said the baby had been breastfed and not fed foods with toxin, and the source is believed environmental. This marks the 24th U.S. case since botulism was diagnosed two years earlier.
