The Ringling and Hagenbeck Wallace circuses faced a proposed 200 license, with mayor Houston proposing a near prohibition for bad elements. The Kersey schools held a Friday night declamatory contest and commencement at the Opera House. Ten contestants competed with Miss Elsie Hill taking first prize, Kathleen Staver second, and Ray Kallaus third. Admission funded prizes and gold medals while a crowd attended.

Rev Jesse Buswell presented diplomas and Mass Ethel Johnson gave the welcome address.
Statistician C J Blanchard of the reclamation service reports over 120 million dollars spent in the west on irrigation. About 70 000 miles of canals now carry water to 10 million acres of formerly arid terrain, producing crops worth more than 250 million dollars annually.
The junior class hosted a May 21 reception for the seniors in the Congregational church dining room. Decorations featured orange black and yellow white colors with Delbridge orchestra music and punch. A prepared program included solos by Freda Taylor and Lois Miller, roasts by Torris Comer and Ernest Tuck, and songs and class yells followed by spirited singing despite bad weather.
The annual junior to senior reception at the Normal was held Friday evening in the chapel and hall. Decorations featured green and white lattice work and red and black poppies with a green and white archway and an illuminated motto “1909 Let Your Light Shine.” 450 attendees enjoyed music from an onstage orchestra and punch served by junior girls.
Deputy Sheriff Peterson and Probation Officer Phillips removed a boy from a tent near Sixth avenue and Sixth street. Mrs Maud Lafferty was arrested for kidnapping and fined 100 dollars plus costs, suspended by the juvenile court. She was charged with taking Frederick Hill 15 to Greeley.
E B Boyle, bridge contractor for Union Pacific, arrived in Greeley yesterday with his outfit and will begin constructing bridges across canal routes of the new branches and Lone Tree. A large bridge near Greeley is planned though details are scarce. Sprague has moved to Pleasant Valley extension, completing seven of thirteen miles in his contract.
Emma Eastman of California, sister of Clara Alward who is described as insane, arrived in Greeley and accuses a man named Brown of robbing her demented sister. She says Brown plans to face a criminal suit and had once claimed to be the husband of the insane woman.
