Floods Hit Big Springs and Julesburg After Six Inch Rain

A two hour storm drenched northeastern Colorado and western Nebraska, flooding Big Springs Nebraska and Julesburg Colorado. Union Pacific main line washed out, several bridges collapsed, stores and homes flooded, more than a dozen families evacuated, trains detoured, and lines down cut outside communication. No injuries reported.

Veteran of Two Wars Shot by Rifle on Furlough in Collbran

Boyd Clark 34, a war veteran with World War II and Korea service, was accidentally shot by a 22 rifle on furlough Sunday at 19 20 hours. The weapon discharged while he handled it to shoot magpies at the Hawkings ranch, where he stayed with his wife Adela Marte Clark and their family. Deputy coroner C O Daniels listed the circumstances and noted papers for reentry into service were lost prior to his December call.

All Nine Airmen Saved by Chutes in B 29 Crash

Alamogordo New Mexico May 21 19 All nine airmen aboard a B 29 bomber parachuted to safety after a crash near Holloman Air Force Base ten miles south of Alamogordo Texas authorities said all injured crew members received hospital care at Holloman General Hospital.
