College Prank Backfires Injures Denton Coed

In Denton Texas a prank by 18 year old Tommy Lester left 20 year old Sheila Nelms severely burned by silver nitrate tossed on her face after leaving a North Texas State College party. Nelms was hospitalized with injuries to head neck and chest. County Attorney Robert Caldwell charged Lester with aggravated assault a misdemeanor. potential maiming charges depend on Nelms recovery. Authorities expelled Lester and Sheriff Barnes handed him to his parents.

Weld County Safety Council and Greeley DeMolay host twice weekly car safety checkpoints reviewing 10 items per vehicle. Twenty seven DeMolay members assist with tire and glass cleaning while police manage traffic. last year Greeley won first place among its size cities.

Bullets Pierce Erie Residence

Two bullets from a .22 rifle pierced a north Erie house just before midnight Friday. One bullet went through a window and two walls, another through an outside wall. Mac Lamar and family were inside. no injuries reported. The first dwelling south of Colorado 66 on Weld-Houlder county line road. Seven Teens Die in Car Train Crash at Illinois Crossing

MATTOON IL AP seven high school students returning from a dance were killed when their car collided with an Illinois Central passenger train at a grade crossing near Mattoon. The dead include Jerry Will Irene Moon Judy Green Dorothy Thomas Loraine Peiffer and Lise Peiffer. One survivor Ivan Moon, 22, was injured. The train was traveling 70 to 75 mph in the Malpas area east central Illinois.

City April finances show general fund receipts near 259k

City financial statement outlines April receipts and disbursements excluding water and sewer. General fund four month totals include 259,205 in receipts with 247,900 in disbursements and a 131,229 cash balance. Water fund April receipts 35,010, disbursements 50,647, balance 217,743. Sewer fund April receipts 17,494, disbursements 2,074, balance 87,153.

President Eisenhower Visits Air Force Academy in Colorado

President Eisenhower arrives at the new Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs for a 24 hour visit. The presidential plane Colum bine 11 lands at Peterson Field after flying from Washington. Ex Big Car Driving Champ Hurt In Raceway Crash

Tony Fetlanhausen a two time national big car driving champion sustained painful but non life threatening injuries when his race car crashed into a retaining wall at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Doctors said he had a cut nose, was severely shaken but conscious with no apparent fractures. The 42 year old Tinley Park Illinois veteran had survived 27 other wrecks in a racing career dating back before World War II. He was the national blazer champion last year and in 1951.

Boy on Bicycle Killed in Steamboat Springs Crash

In Steamboat Springs Colorado 10 year old Dean Wilhelm was killed when his bicycle entered the roadway and collided with a car driven by Valeno Hoje 25 of Steamboat Springs He died on the way to a Denver hospital. Second Launching Area Scheduled For Lowry Base

The Air Force released 42 million dollars for a second Titan missile launching complex at Towry Air Force Base near Denver. James S. Caples said bids open June 10 in Denver for the project, with construction possible by late June or July.
