Prison Guards Cleared In Deaths Of Escapees
A Fremont County jury cleared two Colorado State Penitentiary guards of criminal acts in the May 4 shootings of two inmates during an escape attempt at Canon City. Guard Melton Parker said he fired a warning shot before a fatal shotgun blast. guard Clayton Wright testified he fired at the fleeing inmates after a warning. Inmate Leroy Alsip, awaiting execution for a 1989 Denver kidnapping-slaying, and inmate Michael Bell, also sentenced to death, were named in the trial context.

Meikel spent the weekend at Fort Collins with Mr and Mrs Edward J Meike Dr Bill Meikel recently enlisted in the army and completed basic training at Fort Lewis Washington. He will go to El Paso Texas at the end of his field. Others visited include Loyal Swope and Moruss families from Orchard and Ovid. Families hosted and spent Mother's Day at Red Feather Lakes and Fort Tarplon with friends and relatives. Keith Van Arsdol and Mike Meisinger from Jelms Brown University are expected home Friday.
