Two Spencer shooting victims linked to Greeley roots
Verner Victor Vanderlip 44, longtime Greeley native and South Pasadena educator, and William R. Speer, a former Greeley carpenter, were killed by Verlin Spencer in South Pasadena. Vanderlip served in WWI and taught in Colorado before moving to California. Speer lived in Greeley five years and married Flory Putney. Speer’s father in Newcastle, Pa., learned of his death as the survivor family mourns.

Jerry Stanford Dies Tuesday at Greeley Home
Jerry Stanford, 19, formerly of Greeley, died Tuesday after a long illness. He lived in Greeley since 1925 and was active in band and orchestra during high school. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Paarl Stanford. grandparents Mr. and Mrs. S. Stanford of Lexington, Neb. and Mrs. W. D. Roundarmar of Taxington, plus seven nephews and six nieces. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:40 in the Macya Drawing Room, with interment in Lina Grove Cemetery.
