Cuban spy tied to attempt on Reagan

A Chicago Tribune report says a Cuban government spy acted as adviser to the Emiliano Zapata Unit, a San Francisco Bay area terrorist group, and took part in discussions to assassinate President Ford and Ronald Reagan at the Republican National Convention in Kansas City in August. Federal sources note this could be the first case of a foreign agent directly aiding a domestic terrorist group on U.S. soil. The informant Gregg Adornetty, in protective custody, identified the spy as "Andres Gomez" from a personal note, with Gomez’s photo selected from a group of Cubans. The Zapata Group has claimed about a dozen bombings.
