Farm Plan Proposes Special Bank System For Farmers
Washington March 18 a new farm plan calls for creation of a federal banking system exclusively for farmers. Democrat Smith of South Carolina, chairman of the agricultural committee, said he would introduce a bill to create the system. Secretary Wallace and Henry Morgenthau Jr. discussed the plan after a department conference. Senator Nye of North Dakota predicted an administration push for refinancing agriculture and farm homes. Nye said a broad program would be proposed before Congress adjourns and anticipated early approval. Representative Byrnes said the farm bill would pass the House largely unchanged next week, with the agriculture committee expected to report by Thursday.
