German broadcasts claim Kharkov penetrations while Vyazma is evacuated and bombed. Soviet monitors report heavy fighting around Kharkov, with villages taken southwest of Gzhatsk and large German troop shifts. Funeral services announced for J Van Reber Saturday.
Washington March 12 The press department received unconfirmed reports that Adolf Hitler is suffering from a complete breakdown. An acting senior official said the department attached importance to such reports though he offered no confirmation.
Washington March 12 the official list of what meats cheese fats and fish will be rationed beginning March 29. Rationed meats include all fresh frozen smoked and cured beef veal lamb and pork with variety meats heads brains and kidneys also listed. Dry semidry and fresh smoked and cooked sausages salami pork sausage and other items are rationed as well as fats oils shortenings and cooking fats. Cheese of all kinds except excluded items includes cheddar swiss mu nster and many others with certain processed cheese products. Poultry and game are rationed in all forms along with fats and oils including olive oil. Some cheese products and spreads with less than 43 percent by weight of rationed cheese are also covered.

Claus A. Johnson 66 died at home 1614 Fourteenth Avenue after a long farming career in Greeley and Eaton areas. Born January 28, 1880 in Sweden, he came to America in 1896 settling first in West Concord, Minnesota. He later farmed in Colorado, moved to Berkeley in 1943, helped Immanuel Lutheran Church, served on the Long Tree school board, and was survived by his wife Hilda Satin Johnson and multiple children and grandchildren. Funeral plans to be announced.
