Motorists traveling west toward Loveland on the U S 94 by pass are urged to use extreme caution as heavy winds and dust cut visibility to under a half mile. The lite snow drifted with the gusts and winds continued into Friday.
Gov. Lamm named four Colorado wildlife commission appointees for Gunnison area affairs. Jean Toul, a Denver Republican, and Vernon Williams, a Hayden Democrat, were reappointed. New members include Eric Kelly, a Canon City Democrat, and Wilbur Redden, a Gunnison Republican, pending Senate confirmation. Current members listing Caudill, Clark, Lakewood, and Farley. Road conditions note northern Colorado closures and Weld County Head Start schools’ closure.
A severe storm caused three deaths and widespread damage around Wellington and nearby towns. State patrol reported poor road conditions with several closures on I-25 and US routes while U.S. 86 remained open north of La Salle but advised against southbound travel. City crews worked on downed trees and power outages disrupted traffic signals. no major accidents were reported despite scattered incidents.
A Colorado blizzard with hurricane force winds closed roads and schools across eastern plains and isolated Denver. The Colorado State Patrol urged motorists to stay off highways unless essential while weather officials reported hurricane strength winds and drifts. Denver was cut off from several directions and mass transit ran delayed as Limon and Lincoln County faced paralysis.
Greeley police investigated an early Thursday attack in which Ronnie Gonzales, 19, said two men battered him with a baseball bat as he walked to his car after leaving Balcom Chemical Co. on the 400 block of 18th Street. He sustained facial injuries.
