Yankee Space Probe Pioneer V Launches Toward Sun Orbit
Washington AP reports the United States launched the Pioneer V space probe from Cape Canaveral aboard a Thor Able rocket. The 165000 pound thrust mission aims to study space between Earth and Venus and test interplanetary communication while orbiting the sun. The probe exceeded required speed, reached 247... miles per hour, and will swing near the sun in its first pass about five months from now.

Floods from Lost Creek caused extensive road damage from Prospect Valley east to Weld County. Water briefly ran over state highway 79 about 1 foot deep for 200 to 400 feet. A county house basement near Prospect Valley flooded to about two feet, with pumps brought in to remove water. Ground remains frozen, speeding runoff. Two draglines and 15 to 16 trucks planned to repair roads over at least a week.
