Weld County Republicans Meet at Court House to Set Convention

Leading Weld County Republicans gathered at the courthouse for a central committee meeting. They aimed to fix the date of the county convention to select delegates for the state convention on March 27 in Colorado Springs and to discuss a presidential primary. Nearly every precinct of the 58 counties was represented.

W L Jones Dies in Washington

William L. Jones, born August 25 1834 in Venango County Pennsylvania, died February 4 1912 in Seattle Washington after a life moving west from Iowa to Colorado and finally Washington. He leaves a widow and four children including Herbert F and William H. in Colorado Springs.

Aged Couple in Need on Remote Claim

Skul and wife, an aged, nearly destitute couple ten miles east of the county, struggle with paralysis and rheumatism. County Physician Dr McCain arranged to move them to the county hospital as they faced starvation after years of hardship and a prior injury. They had earlier lived in Denver after a beer wagon accident and have resisted asking for help, staying hopeful and cheerful.

Fellers Taken to Denver in Forged Check Case

H. F. Fellere, who attempted suicide in the county jail Thursday evening, was taken to Denver Friday by city officers. Fellere was arrested while visiting his wife and baby at his mother's home in Greeley. It is alleged he passed forged checks on the First National Bank of Denver. Fellere is a draftsman of Denver.

Sheely Posts $22,500 Bond for May 14 Appearance

G. Sheely, tied to Weld County graft cases, was brought from Denver and given a $22,500 bond for his May 4 appearance at the May term. The bond was supplied by the National Surety Company and approved by Judge Graham. He returned to Denver after formalities.

Kendel to Sing at Sunday Philharmonic Concert

J C Kendel director of the Philharmonic orchestra will sing a solo at the Sunday afternoon concert. The program features a variety of pieces including a flute solo fantasia. Bernard ban for a noteworthy finale and caperetta pieces will close the season as crowds are expected.

Miss Beattie Taken To Greeley Hospital For Appendicitis

Miss Helen Beattie, moved from the Harvard building during Thursday’s fire to Sheriff McAfee’s home, was hospitalized in Greeley Friday and operated on for appendicitis. Her LaSalle home is in the area and she attends Greeley high school in town. Her sister Susie Beattie, a trained nurse, is in a Denver hospital recovering from an appendicitis operation.

Rumor resurfaces that an out of town firm may establish a new iron and brass foundry in Greeley. Local demand stems from frequent broken castings needing costly out of town replacement, especially during harvest. The proposed plant would process iron and brass castings using regional iron ore.

Dr Gordon Bruce Halsted has been honored by the acceptance of a book titled Science and Methods to be published by Columbia University New York at their expense. He will receive royalties from sales. Seven chapters have been written and sent for review. Halsted works at night and often rises at 2 or 3 a m to continue.

Charity by Ladies Aid Provides for Nunn Homestead Family

West Side Ladies Aid society members organize aid for a widow and her children living on a Nunn area homestead. They sent a box with shoes stockings and underwear and held an all day sewing meeting at Mrs John Deboo home. Mick, Former Greeley Grain Trader, Dies in California

M S Mick once of Greeley died February 24 at his home 40 West 42 Place Los Angeles California. He was 71 and left Greeley 15 years ago after a career in the grain trade. He moved first to Salt Lake City before settling in California.

Men and Religion Conference Set in Denver for Records

On March 22 and 23 a conference of all interested in the Men and Religion Forward Movement will be held in Denver. Ministers and laymen from across Colorado are invited to attend. Anna Galaduchina of Windeor files for divorce from Babel Galaduchina who is in Russia. She says seven years of marriage ended after brutal treatment including beatings and overwork. Father Malone Packs House in New York

Father Maione has lectured on Rome and the Vatican in New York City for two weeks with color moving pictures in Kinemacolor. He will lecture and show films in Washington and then return for a Sterling theater engagement on March 17. Music numbers will be provided by a list of named performers and the church chorus.

Death of Mrs Pearson Raton

Mrs Ida Pearson wife of Hans Pearson a prominent farmer died at her home two miles northeast of Ault after a year long illness. Death was due to paralysis. She was forty one and survived by her husband and two children a five year old son and a three year old daughter. The funeral will be held from the Swachfish church in Eaton Tuesday afternoon.

Colt Kicks Small Boy Near Evans

An older brother saved six year old George Paul when a fractious colt kicked and stamped him in the barnyard near Evans. The boy sustains a badly lacerated back and bruises. no bones are broken. The incident occurred yesterday as the children played nearby and the colt attacked them before being subdued. The injured boy is son of John Paul who lives east of the area.

Longmont Wins Against Trust Over Lighting Plant

Longmont defeats Northern Colorado Power in a case seeking a permanent injunction to stop the city from taking over the lighting plant built by Longmont Service company. District Judge Haslett Burke upholds the bond issue as legal within debt limits and orders costs against the complainant. Nearly 100 Longmont residents attended the ruling, and plans to pay warrants with the plant proceed. the power company will appeal to the state supreme court.

Music Museum Adds Three Instruments To Complete Set

The State Teachers College music museum adds slide trombone saxophone and French horn to its orchestra collection. A large shipment of orchestral instruments arrived recently and the total specimens exceed 1 900 after four years. The winter concert series by the department of music funds the acquisitions with a fourth concert planned for April.

Longmont Lights Up After Victory Over Power Co

March 9 Longmont celebrates a court ruling in favor of the city against Northern Colorado Power Co. Judge Burke’s decision enables rapid electrification with over 200 homes lit by electric mains and more than 500 new connections expected after midnight. Bonfire anvils and fireworks marked the jubilant citywide reaction.
