President Eisenhower cancels a golf date in Puerto Rico deferring return to Washington until Monday. In Montevideo he suffered hoarseness not linked to bronchitis while security gas exposure mildly affected some aides. He played 18 holes at Dorado under a hot sun, tiring after his lengthy four nation tour and a Carib bean study group address.

Merury Above Freezing Here After Ice Shroud Lifts

Temperatures rose above freezing for the first time since February as the day began with 34 degrees at 11 am. Water froze in gutters earlier while snow flurries were forecast to ease. Highs reached the low 20s to mid teens with colder overnight lows, and mountain areas expected further snow.

Highland Hills Golf Course details at Friday luncheon

At a Friday noon luncheon in Garden Kitchen Roy Lundvall and local officials outlined plans for Highland Hills Golf Course to be built on Lundvall and Lundyall land west of 50th Avenue and south of West 20th Street. Architect J Press Maxwell and engineer Nelson Haley discussed the first nine holes and phased construction beginning by clearing three to four acres once frost leaves the ground, with a target playable by spring 1961.

A Weld state oil and gas lease sale drew top bonuses of $18.07 per acre for a S2harre tract east of New Raymer, leased by Champlin Oil. Nine Weld tracts followed, with five securing bonuses. French Rocket Reaches 125 Miles In Atmosphere Study

Paris AP reports French scientists launched the Veronique rocket to about 290 kilometers altitude at the Colombette test center to study atmospheric conditions. The Air Ministry confirmed the shot and its location.

Three Proposals Aimed at Easing Crowding in Colorado Colleges

Denver reports that Colorado's Legislative Committee of Education Beyond the High School endorsed three proposals to state and college officials to reduce future crowding. The recommendations cover enrollment options and capacity improvements, with officials urged to consider rapid action.

Icy Roads Cause Two County Crashes

Two accidents in the county Friday were blamed on icy roads. A 1953 GMC truck driven by Donald L. Defoe, 21, of Platte, and a 1959 GMC pickup driven by Phillip G. Miller, 31, of Denver, collided on a narrow bridge near Platteville at 3:15 p.m. Patrolman Don Girnt said Defoe was westbound and Miller was eastbound when the collision occurred. Damages were $100 to the truck and $400 to the pickup. Nearby, Michael Frall, 52, of Windsor, drove north on East Street by the Windsor sugar factory at 3:10 p.m. when his 1955 Ford pickup went into a ditch and struck a fence, with damage estimated at $200.

Four fires kill fourteen children and an adult Friday

The Associated Press reports multiple fatal blazes nationwide. In Little Rock, James Edda Austin age 2 and Elizabeth 5 months died in a two horse fire along with their mother and another child. In Evansville six of seven children perished in a home blaze. Easton Maryland saw four children suffocate as a wind driven chimney fire caused a fatal blaze. Victims Dorothea Mills 9 Yvonne 1 Quinton Lewis 8 and Margaret Thomas 5 were all Negroes. Six more children escaped. In Buffalo a truck driver’s two children died in an apartment fire, leaving him to tell his wife Mary the heartbreaking news.

Man Dies When Trucks Collide Near Cripple Creek

A Friday crash five miles north of Cripple Creek on Colorado Highway 67 killed 52 year old Willard Hunter of Colorado Springs nine hours after the collision. Injured were C L Woody 61 of Pueblo driver of the State Highway Department tour and Robert A Schwab 45 of Cripple Creek the other truck's driver.

Plane Crash Survivors Live in Igloos And Eat Elk

FAIRBANKS Alaska AP Two men who rode out a plane crash in the Chukchi Sea lived a week on moose meat sausage dry biscuits and snow water inside ice Igloos. Pilot Lee Nolen age 43 Anchorage and Georges Baumann 8 from Nevada Missouri were rescued near Kotzebue after drifting and days of ice travel to shore. They reached Kivalina with Eskimo assistance.

Tree Top Flight By Jet Bomber Set for State

Washington AP reports a Bee twin jet bomber will fly over 17 areas nationwide for wind gust measurements and maintenance tests. The FAA authorized a waiver of air traffic rules for March 1 to May 23 for Douglas Aircraft to conduct daytime tests at altitudes of 200, 600, and 1,000 feet and speeds up to 360 knots over 34% mile tracks away from congested airspaces and small airports.

CSC Secures 250000 Advance for Dormitory Project

Colorado State College received a 250000 advance from the Housing and Home Finance Agency as part of a 425000 bond issue to fund a new men’s dormitory on the east side of Sixth Avenue. The project, costing 470000 including furnishings, will house 148 students plus director and assistant director apartments. A 200000 interim loan will cover contractor payments until bonds are formally accepted. This marks the agency’s second loan to the college following a 2750000 loan for previous women’s dorms and dining facilities.

Eads Woman Found Frozen to Death

Leonard Warren Dies on Stage at Metropolitan Opera

Leonard Warren, renowned baritone and Met star, collapsed and died on stage during Verdi’s La Forza del Destino at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He was 48, performing Dan Carlo, as last rites were given and the audience paid tribute. Warren, Bronx native, left a global legacy in opera and radio, with noted appearances from Europe to Russia. he was to turn 49 in April.

Windsor to Install Christian Pastor at Sunday Service

Windsor headline says Hey Richard T Hough will be installed as pastor of the Christan church Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. A reception will follow led by Dr. E D Kadlub board chair. Rev Maurice Lydria of Denver, Christian churches secretary, will speak. Several regional ministers invited. Hough began work February first and will live in parsonage with wife while commuting to Denver for studies at the site School of Theology.
