F A Kuehn of west Greeley tracked a large gray rat suspected in chicken thefts. He dug a rat hole and found one large rat seven small ones and twenty young chickens, with only heads eaten. Local poultry raisers warned about imported rats from eastern corn shipments.
Local reports of numerous chicken thefts in Greeley prompted speculation of a lock manipulating culprit. Mr Keulen’s discovery clarifies the situation and the city plans action to curb the pest problem.
W A Riley former Loveland marshal was sentenced to three to five years at hard labor in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to a charge of injections with Mary Hollenbeek in the Tiet court before Judge Garrigues. He told the court he understood the implications of his plea.
Cards announce the marriage of W. G. Hosack of Greeley to Miss Ayalina Hyman of Belleville Illinois. The wedding is set for June 20 at Miss Eyman's home in Belleville with Hosack visiting relatives in Greeley prior to the ceremony. Afterward the couple will reside at 2022 Tenth Avenue. Hosack is a carpenter who has lived in Greeley for several years.
Special to the Kersey from June 28 reports Justice of the Peace H. P Pam, longtime peacemaker in Kersey, died this afternoon from Bright's disease. He had been ill two weeks, fading since last Saturday, leaving a widow and six children. He lived in the district nearly twenty years and was highly regarded.
Bertha Roll, 22, wife of F. W. Roll and mother of a eight month old daughter, died at Mount Vernon after appendicitis and multiple surgeries. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pemberton of Greeley, later returning to Mount Vernon with her family. Her death came after a period of illness and repeated operations.
Jesus Vegas, the Mexican who escaped the pest house twice and faced charges for stealing a suit from the Colorado Mercantile Company at Windsor, was sentenced this morning to three to five years in the penitentiary for grand larceny.

Olive Branch farmers report ample underflow water boosting crops as over twenty households install electric pumping systems costing about 600 dollars each. Canals relay seepage water from wells providing twenty to thirty inches of irrigation, enabling a strong farming year.
Harrison C. Bruce of Platteville is found dead in the Platte River after reportedly being stricken with an epileptic fit near the water. The coroner and family believe he removed his clothes before slipping on a bridge and falling in, with no autopsy planned. Bruce, son of pioneer Harrison Bruce, was well known in Platteville.
A young man with 22 years of epilepsy vanished after a Sunday fit. His body was found downstream two days later near a bridge hole where clothes were recovered. Coroner Mary of Greeley investigated, family believing he removed clothes to swim before the fall. He had been despondent over his health.
Sheriff Florance detained three men George Kline John Lessley and William Collins. A whiskey prescription signed by Dr. Dark was found on Kline and the men are believed linked to the stranger who fleeced B. W. Van Deaver of 25 dollars under the Dr Dark alias. They will be prosecuted as vags with no proven connection to Dr. Dark.
The Shaw household is released from quarantine after their son Kenn recovers from a mild illness described as star fever. The family members Mr and Harry H Shaw are noted in the report.
