Venereal Disease Rates Rise Then Level in Weld County
Weld County faces rising venereal disease figures with 90 gonorrhea cases in 1973, about the same as total cases for 1972. Health officials note a past three year surge, youth predominance, underreporting, and shifting federal funding, as education and treatment access remain key challenges. The state cites dropping age of victims and calls for improved schooling and testing alongside medical treatment.
