A public test of the final liquor law tightens controls on illegal sales and bootlegging. Officials indicate stricter penalties and enforcement will accompany the law once enacted, aiming to curb illicit distribution.
The Creeley court will hear the first bootlegging case under a new anti liquor clause. If liquor is sold on premises the property may revert to Union Colony company. A $50 reward is offered for evidence to convict sellers. John Polk of Cheyenne visited the city.
Weld county beet growers compete for a $1000 solid silver cup prize offered by Horace QC at the American Land and Irrigation exposition in Madison Square Garden New York beginning in November. Judging weights include sugar content purity shape and weight. Entries must include five beets and a crop history with details of growing and harvesting. Fred Roos, sought in Denver for passing bad checks totaling 40 dollars, was arrested yesterday after police traced a clue to a man matching his description about 35 miles east of the area. He lived on a dry claim near Grease Wood lake and offered no resistance.
Nearly 100 delegates gather in a Congregational church for the P E O annual convention. Sessions include business talks, an automobile ride, and receptions. Dinner and supper served by church ladies. recital scheduled with Professor Schweiker and Miss Kender.
In LaSalle on June 21 the Milliken Boosters work to display advertising for Milliken’s Fourth of July celebration. They push a strong promotion while La Salle plans a major holiday event at home on the Fourth.
Those planning to join the celebration at Fort St. Vrain should take the train from Greeley via the Lara mie route at 10 20 to reach the old fort in time. A passenger couch will be set on the siding for visitors in case of rain. Those not staying for the plesing can take the 6 o'clock train back to Greeley.

Judges fines B G Taylor after he failed to appear as a witness in the Martin case. Taylor will owe about 300 dollars if the amount is collected, as the court ruled witnesses may obtain tags without disturbing court business. An investigation showed he drank heavily the night before, delaying testimony.
Summer session at the normal school reports a sizable turnout with many students enrolling early. Officials note the strong interest across departments and anticipate continued growth as classes begin.
At the summer session of Colorado State Teachers College the influx of new teachers fills corridors as 625 register by 8 am, surpassing last year. Regular classes start at 7:40 with evening options, and Professor Lister will teach an evening course in local education. Prof Ernesti’s art room debuts in Guggenheim building with student works and a pleasing display.
Susan Jones of the State Normal class of ’11 married J Emil Harburg, advertising manager of the Colorado Herald, in Manitou with Rev. J Appleton Graner officiating. The couple fled from Denver to avoid fanfare as Ruth Steeman served as bridesmaid and the bride teased as “Water” in class lore.
Harry J. Snook and A Buttons narrowly escaped death when line trouble at Third street and Eleventh avenue caused a live crossing of telephone and electric light wires. Both were badly burned and unconscious for a time but resumed duties after care. The telephone company dispatched Buttons to repair the fault but he suffered the same fate as Snook.
A young man from the east wore an Alpine plumed bonnet at the P. E. O. convention in Greeley. The hat, common in the far east, signals a fad that could transform men’s attire with varied plumes and styles.
Friends of Mrs. C Thorkelson held a large surprise birthday gathering last night. The event featured a feast and a joyful social hour with several dozen attendees. Meanwhile Mrs. Treda Simonson is ill and Charles Wolfe of the local merchant class is in Denver for the day. Will Young of Ault visits his brother in law Theo Ennis, and Alex Hickman is visiting Denver today.
Out of town visitors in Greeley puzzled by car signs as they wait for rides. Two young ladies arrived and, misreading destinations such as Majestic Theater and Neill's Lumber yard, asked when a car to the Normal would come. They were told any car could take them to the Normal.
Greeley appears again on the Union Pacific Colorado Division timetable revised to June 18 1911 with bold type on the map after previous issues showed only Greeley Junction. Local business leaders urged protests. the Tribune explained the omission was due to engravers in Chicago and would be corrected. The Commercial Club transportation committee considers next steps.
Plans are complete for a new Platteville gun club to be organized at a meeting tomorrow night with about 20 charter members expected. Local enthusiasts and skilled shots aim to raise the club and attract neighboring clubs for shoots in the early fall and the large annual hunt.
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Abbott traveled to Denver today for a brief business trip.
In a standout Greeley matchup the Cheyenne Indians defeated the Spuds 5 to 3 in eight innings. Gormley starred on the mound for Cheyenne after relieving Miller, with six hits allowed and four strikeouts over seven frames. Buckles led the offense with a three base hit and multiple timely hits, while Norris, Riley, and Haller contributed. The game ended early as rain threatened and players prepared for a train departure. tomorrow Trinidad visits for a 2:30 p.m. game with Greeley lineup projections listed.
