Reports from Allied and German fronts describe intense fighting as Germany presses southward toward victory. Paris and Berlin dispatches indicate French resistance, German advances, and speculation on peace negotiations amid widespread destruction and strategic withdrawals.
Soviet Russia announced Estonia and Latvia would approve free passage for Soviet troops and form new governments, signaling a broader push into the Baltic region. Dispatches from London reported Red Army and air forces being seen near Lithuania as Allied observers warned of a potential major shift in continental security.
Fire crews faced a difficult perch when a cat climbed onto a porch and onto a street lamp arm. Rescuers from the fire department and gas electric company responded, removing the cat before any serious injuries occurred. Separately, two youths were arrested for car prowling in Las Vegas, one held at 11 years old for concealed weapon, and a separate two alarm fire at Gates Rubber Company caused about 710,000 in damage.
Union Pacific train service returned after a flood destroyed a bridge north of Greeley. Crews built a 160 foot pile bridge 40 feet high and used by northbound and southbound trains to resume regular schedules on the U P route.
Colacato State College of Education reports 2,275 registrations by noon Monday for the summer session, up 278 from last year. A Sterling youth was killed and three other youths were injured in a head on collision between a car carrying four Sterling youths and a truck from Greeley. Leonard Yack, 19, and Edward Forsberg, 18, were injured with Forsberg later dying at Fort Morgan hospital. The accident occurred around 3:760 AM as the group returned from Fort Collins. The truck driver Floyd Christy, 18, of Greeley, swerved to avoid a collision, but both vehicles collided on the road. The Peters fleet truck involved was operated by Walter and W. J. Peters of Fort Morgan. Clary suffered minor injuries.
A 10 year old boy died after contacting a high voltage wire on a light pole in Dacono. Eugene Kniss, son of Mr and Mrs Adar Tails, died at Greeley hospital after the accident Monday morning. Coroner T. G. Wilmoth investigated.
A man identified as Severino Cornal la, age 22, died this afternoon at Canon Gily hospital from a skull fracture after an incident with officers. The injuries occurred when he allegedly struck his head against a concrete wall near Wa Nome. Officials said he was injured the previous night and later pronounced dead.
A damaged engraving shows the Union Pacific Bridge north of Greeley just across Weld County line. The 160 foot long structure spans a dry stream bed and sits amid burned ruins from a recent fire. The scene depicts the bridge area after restoration work and marks the first train runs since the blaze.

A midair collision over Mitchel Field New York destroyed two bomber planes and left twelve U S Army airmen mostly reserves dead along with several students and an instructor in a separate Wilnerdale air accident. Witnesses saw flames and parachutes as the planes crashed into a densely populated suburb near Creedmere. A list of victims includes Lieut Paul Burlingame West Point graduate and other trainees from Kelly Field Texas. The Mitchel Field tragedy was described by officials as one of the worst in the air force’s history.
Mayor Colpitts leads the Colorado Municipal League at a Montrose meeting where Don Sowers was re elected secretary and new officers were named. The group adopted resolutions opposing a proposed 3.2 beer tax and supporting state distribution rules for gasoline tax revenue, with Greeley officials among attendees.
