Mrs J B Austin and her daughter from Grant Nebraska were in the city yesterday visiting friends. They parted this evening for Fort Collins where they will spend the summer.
Mrs. Lucinda Lee aged eighty one, the oldest Weld county homesteader, filed final proof on 160 acres sixteen miles northeast of Pierce. She travels to Greeley for settlement, adjoining her Civil War veteran son, and has made many improvements, remaining active in her district.
Mrs. E. H. Genge departed this morning for Denver on a business trip.
Denver on June 15 reports farmers east of Boulder protest Barker Meadow reservoir on South Boulder Creek failing to discharge water. They blame a gate defect at the Central Colorado Power company dam and warn crops will be ruined within two weeks unless more water is released. Farmers advocate dynamiting the dam to save their fields if needed. Comstock and other power company officials visited Boulder to inspect the gate and seek fixes.
The Gill Gun Club, with twenty five members, meets this afternoon as the summer schedule allows one meeting monthly. Mr BowMan, a top shooter for Dupont Powder Works, will be in the city to demonstrate fancy shooting techniques.
Mrs. Be. 8. Porter of Ault recalled early days during a Platteville trip to view the remains of her burned property last Thursday. The pioneer arrived after joining the Greeley colony and spoke of historic places and people, including catching a young doe in the area now city park in Greeley.
Ft. Lupton bonds approved to raise 35000 dollars for a new water system. Bonds sold in Denver to Cashier Wilson of First National Bank. Contractor Geddes of Ft. Lupton has the job and is ready to start immediately.
Mrs I Stukey is spending several days in Denver on a pleasure trip.
W W L Clayton traveled to Denver this morning for a short stay of recreation and to observe the latest in hobble skirt fashion.
Heavy storms drenched Weld county with nearly two inches in Greeley and over an inch in Ault and nearby towns. Cellars flooded and ditches overflowed as the storm moved south, with some spots turning into lakes. Rain brings much needed moisture and optimism that the dry spell may end.
The postal savings bank will open in Greeley next Tuesday June 20 with official word from the postmaster general to Postmaster Gray. Greeley sought a bank after Leadville led Colorado in early volumes and now follows as the latest city to gain a postal savings institution.
L. R. Kent of Brigesdale is staying at the Albion House to recover from a broken arm suffered when a well digging machine caught his sleeve. He halted the belt with his other hand, saving the limb though it was badly mangled by the sprockets.

The Colorado League meeting gathers delegates statewide with work by the Board of Control and Faculty of Instruction. Bishop Quaile of Oklahoma City will attend to speak on League work.
George Helps proprietor of Helps Grocery in Bracewell travels to the city today with his son Stephen and daughter Elizabeth.
Roscoe Martin the young son of Mr. and Mrs. R G Martin was operated on for appendicitis at Greeley hospital this morning and is reported resting easy.
Captain Wanzer visits Greeley greeting longtime associates and stopping for brief conversations during a routine stop in town.

Mr and Mrs Vernon Babbitt, housing guests of Mr and Mrs R D Thompson from Fort Cains, spent a few days. Mr Bibbitt works as a draftsman for the Sugar company at Collins and is on a short vacation trip across the state.
The sixteenth annual convention of the W C T U opened in Ft. Lupton with about 100 delegates from Larimer Boulder Jackson and Weld districts. Greeley will send eleven delegates plus supporters. New officers for the coming year will be elected Friday with district officers including Nellie V. Ross acting secretary Alice Hastings corresponding secretary Elizabeth Bennet recording secretary Maggie S. Davenport L T L secretary.
