Five people including W B Starr and A W Ferguson of Greeley escaped a double rollover when a Zimm merman stage auto struck an embankment near Log Cabin yesterday afternoon. All occupants walked away with only painful bruises and one leg injury, the car nearly demolished.
Chauncey Courtright, son of Mr and Mrs J B Courtright of Greeley, died in Oakland California after an appendicitis operation. He was a conductor for the Denver Greeley and Interurban line when it first opened, left Greeley a year ago for the western coast, and married Miss Edith Burnside of Denver. Mra Courtright traveled to Oakland and is expected to bring the body to Greeley for burial. Mr Courtright was in Oklahoma and plans to arrive in Greeley today.
Clarence Donovan Ives reports exceptional year with his incubators producing 161 white leghorn chicks from 109 eggs. The operation is located on the 8 and L W south of here.
Governor Shafroth urged citizens to display the flag and Mayor Mayher asks residents to show patriotism by flying Old Glory wherever possible tomorrow.
The Odd Fellows hold their annual memorial at 3 30 Sunday afternoon in the I O O F hall. Rev R A Chase to deliver the memorial address with speeches and eulogies for departed members. Musical numbers planned. Members of the I O F lodge and Rebekah lodge invited.
BM Biggs a 10 year old boy from near the Luc Galentine place seven miles east of LaSalle fractured his right arm when a wagon throw him after horses started suddenly. Doctors could not be secured until early this morning. Dr Vance set the bones with the boy showing notable fortitude.
At Ault on June 13 workers race to finish a new pea huller while nature accelerates the pea crop. The machine was slated for the first harvest but may not be completed in time. After hulled, peas will be rushed by auto to Empson canning factory at Greeley. The crop appears to be bumper with high yields.
Ned R. T. Dorsch, 55, despondent over long illness, shot himself with a .38 caliber revolver at a construction camp twelve miles south of Sterling. He died instantly. His only relative is brother John Dorsch of St Joseph, Missouri.
A possible diphtheria outbreak arises four miles southeast of Evans with two Russian families, Herman and Wagner, affected by five infections. County Physician Horton administered anti-toxin after being summoned to the cases. Investigators suggest exposure may trace to a Loveland visit last week.
Grover area plains resemble a velvet carpet of flowers with wild geranium red hues prairie blue bells wild snowball and cactus. Report notes a strong rebound in cattle restocking plans as farmers prepare for a round-up and harsher winters, aiming to revive range prosperity from thirty years ago.
In Denver on June 13 Judge Riddle's division granted a receivership to Marshall B. Smith and the Continental Trust company for the Denver Laramie Northwestern railroad. Each receiver posted a $19,000 bond. Total indebtedness is about $400,000. Operations to continue with improved efficiency under new management. Judge Milliken, former road president, approves of the decision.
The Seventh Annual convention of the W. C. T. U. Fifth district is in session at the Christian church Greeley. Delegates from Ft. Collins Loveland Berthoud Ault Kersey LaSalle and Platteville have arrived. Sessions feature reports committees speeches and a prohibition symposium with various local leaders and church figures in attendance.
Dear editor, a city resident laments a neglected alley between Sixth and Seventh streets and Eighth and Ninth avenues. He cites stagnant pools, manure piles, flies and frogs near city hall and Camfield hotel, urging cleaner streets, better parks, proper alley cementing, and better public health measures. His letter calls for cleanup days and improvements to make the town a healthier, better looking place.
A giant cottonwood owned by the school district is offered for cutting and hauling. Mayor Mayher says it is a valuable source of wood and will pay for itself with interest. First come first served. the mayor will grant the contract to the first responsible applicant.
A traveler from Indiana, John Leonard, reached Ault just as his uncle W. J. Gillmore was being laid in the casket. He rode the 9:50 train and hurried to the Congregational church, arriving moments before services closed. Leonard plans a brief stay before returning east.
Telegram to J R Moore, president, states the plan to raise 1 200 000 for irrigation work is closed. A board meeting Saturday will review Chicago proceedings and decide on final report. The telegram suggests no more hitches in securing funds and finishing the district project.
Lucius Baker aged 20 was arrested in Lafayette for allegedly aiding in a crime against R M Purdy's 12 year old daughter. Benny Parks died by suicide after the discovery of the case. Orr was arrested last Sunday following an Lafayette investigation led by Sheriff Capp and Deputy D A Martin. Parks admitted his room was used as a meeting place for the girl and other boys. Baker is charged as messenger between Parks and the Purdy girl.
Ault June 13 a severe lightning storm hit the area with a bolt traveling along telephone wires into the Day residence causing a curtain to catch fire after a disconnnected line sparked. The Day family and neighbors acted quickly to extinguish the blaze as trees were struck nearby and minor shocks were felt indoors. In Olive Branch district east of Ault a brief downpour occurred.
A fourteen year old boy, son of Mr and Mrs J W Lackmore, broke two ribs and his shoulder blade after falling from a large cottonwood in their backyard on Tuesday. He struck the chicken coop roof, was unconscious briefly, and is now recovering.
Fort Lupton farmers report a strong alfalfa season with prices at nine to twelve dollars per ton and plans for three hay cuts. Fall wheat shows solid profits as beet fields improve with high sugar potential and robust growth. Cabbages are plentiful and irrigation remains heavy with ditches full.
New voting precincts are created in Greeley with city style numbering. Ward 1 includes Northeast Greeley formerly 21, North Greeley formerly 7, Northwest Greeley formerly 62. Ward 2 lists East Greeley formerly 36, Center Greeley formerly 12, West Greeley formerly 53. Ward 3 covers Southeast Greeley formerly 54, South Greeley formerly 44, Greeley formerly 43.
Johnny Warren recalls a tale about Ben Sterling known for his bulk. A group near Julesburg fled a warlike Indian threat after a rider warned them. Sterling bolted on a worn broncho, leading a stampede before tiring and falling behind the others. He then urged the men to stick together for safety.
