The Associated Press reports McGovern gained 40 delegates across Minnesota and Virginia over the weekend, bringing his total to ninety six and widening the race for the Democratic nomination. Humphrey won ten delegates for a total of forty two forty one with Wallace Muskie and Chisholm also receiving votes in various state conventions. Minnesota and Virginia delegates on first ballot favored Humphrey and McGovern while several states bound delegates and uncommitted slots remained for later contests.

Repair Crews Reopening Cripple Creek Tunnel
Repair crews worked Sunday to reopen a tunnel that collapsed on the main road to Cripple Creek Colorado. Mud poured inside the south entrance after a loader was removed. Nobody was injured. The tunnel on Colorado 67 links Cripple Creek and Divide and traffic was diverted on a gravel road from Cripple Creek and Morissant.

Trucker Crash Kills 12 in Louisiana Pickup Collision
A wheat hauler rear ended a slowly moving pickup carrying 14 youths near Alexandria Louisiana. Twelve youths died and one was seriously hurt as the wheat spilled from the big truck and crushed the pickup area. The driver of the truck was hospitalized in shock. no charges filed yet. Most victims were related to residents of Woolworth and nearby communities.
