Light hailstorms struck Windsor and Ault Thursday afternoon with scattered, small damage reported. Reports noted a mild impact in the Windsor area and lighter, scattered hail near Aut, while overall damage appeared limited to the surrounding country.
A Wednesday hailstorm struck Port Laptom leaving four to five inch piles of hail and widespread crop damage. E Frink estimates losses near $2,000 as workers restore fields and Frank Brink, superintendent of a local canning factory, coordinates efforts across farms in the district.
Superintendent Walters reports 150 to 6 aerea of beets in his district between Greeley and Windsor are submerged by floodwater. Farmers hope soaking aids the crop while wary of permanent injury. No. 3 wasteway repairwork continues as the headgate endures strain. The wasteway carries about 400 cubic feet per second during peak hours, saving Greeley and surrounding fields from worse drenching.
Eyewitnesses describe a black funnel shaped cloud near Ault on a Wednesday afternoon that ploughed the dry belt ground and torn up soil. Residents waited for word as homesteaders gathered in town to learn of the event and the fate of a resident living beneath the storm. A woman reported the cloud struck earth with great force and caused ground to heave while a lone person was nearby, preventing probable loss of life. A concurrent sandstorm affected Teeton, with the cloud visible for miles.
Reverend Le Dudley of Windsor and Cora Reed of Des Moines were united in marriage at the home of Mrs. Harriett Reed with Rev. A. M. Haggart officiating. The ceremony drew only immediate relatives and Land Club members, with pink and green club colors decorating. The couple departed for Denver then returned to Windsor on Wednesday.

Shores and his young son narrowly escaped drowning after their wagon was swept from a stream crossing near the Arthur bridge. Shores saved the boy and swam to shore abandoning the horse and buggy as the current pulled them downstream. The father then tried to cut the horse free but the animal drowned, and both man and child were carried along by high water.
A Collins visitor says the Larimer County Bar Association met yesterday to frame a resolution to disbar Attorney Leftwich. Leftwich is now bonded on a penitentiary offense. The meeting’s result remains secret awaiting presentation to the Supreme Bench. Crose, Leftwich’s former partner, left Collins recently.
A break at the Peter Laurideen place released floodwater over the F. H. Badger farm and river after a hailstorm devastates hay and beet crops on 1060 acres. Notable losers include Hogarty Ramsay Monfort Johnson Morse. Repairs may be delayed for days as water covers the LaGrange road by the schoolhouse.
George H. Williams sues Great Western Sugar and George Struble in district court for 5000 dollars claiming permanent injuries from a fall at the local sugar plant. Williams, employed by Struble who held a brick contract, blames negligence by both the contractor and the company. Attorneys Hutton of Denver represents Great Western. H B Churchill for Struble. R Strong prosecutes for Williams.
The Pythian Sisters held their regular officer election on Wednesday afternoon. Members elected include Mrs. Millie Vrooman as B O, Mrs. Sarah Speers as P C, Mrs. Abbie Deffke as B S, Mrs. Ermanna Schryver as B J, Roynton as manager, Mrs. Johnson as guard, and Mrs. Lulu Kistling as protector. Mrs. Speers was chosen grand representative.

Wall Street reports from St. Paul that James J. Hill plans to merge the Great Northern Northern Pacific Chicago Burlington and Quincy and the Colorado and Southern into one corporation. advisers see Sherman anti trust law as possible obstacle but believe Colorado and Southern could become holding company for others. total capital and debt around 1.2 billion dollars and the move would form the largest railroad consolidation in U.S. history rivaling the steel trust. Edwin Hawley denies knowledge of the merger while noting the Colorado and Southern could serve as holding entity.
Lovers of good music enjoyed a Wagner Mendelssohn themed evening performed by Eaton musicians directed by Professor Von Bode. The program featured Mendelssohn Hymn of Praise and several arias and instrumental pieces by Frater Wellar Carter Lussier Brendel Wright and others.
The council holds an adjourned session this evening to discuss two propositions for gasoline fire wagons and to review an ordinance establishing grades for specific streets. The northwest sewer petition nears completion and the Sixth Avenue franchise for the Union Pacific is re-published due to an error with no action planned.
W B Ingersoll, a Boulder university student, will operate from Greeley as Success magazine representative this summer. About forty Boulder students pursue similar work to fund college tuition. Local agents will solicit subscriptions and promote a new domestic science edition by Success, featuring household hints compiled by Isabel Gordon Curtis in a 1000 page volume.
E. E. Skorniakof of St. Petersburg, irrigation engineer in the Russian government's agriculture department, arrived in Fort Collins to study Colorado irrigation. He is hosted by Prof. L. G. Carpenter of the government experiment station and will tour ditches and reservoirs with him. They plan several weeks covering Collings to Greeley and the Poudre river area.
The Windsor special reports a transformer station in Northern Colorado struck by lightning on Thursday afternoon. Mc Glellean and Taylor acted quickly to cut the power, halting a potential catastrophe as the building caught fire but flames subsided with the current off. The storm brought heavy hail and exceptional rainfall to the area.
Coyotes multiply in Beebe Draw this spring and threaten local poultry as they raid dooryards and corrals. A neighborhood boy found eight pups, signaling a rising coyote population and growing depredations on chicken yards.

A new business league named the G and N club has formed among Goodman and Neill clothing store employees. Members include S. M. Goodman H. J. Weibking P. R. Dunbar D. W. Wood C. E. Short c. J. Douhan R. W. Harris and Elmer Jansson. Meetings feature member papers on office efficiency and system with future topics announced.
Loveland reports the Poudre river has surged, endangering property and lives. The bridge over the Poudre used by the Great Western railroad is out of service for a week or more. Workmen repair and strengthen the bridge as quickly as possible, with danger from floods receding though high waters will persist due to mountain snowmelt.
A violent Beebe storm Thursday dropped heavy rainfall and sharp lightning. The J P Oster property suffered a struck crane stacker acting as a lightning rod, severely damaged while rain blinded observers for a prolonged period.
W. B. Gillespie is failing in health and confined to his home at 1226 Twelfth street. He would be glad to have friends call.
The body of 3 year old Albert Fleming was found by Henry Tonson in the Ridgeway ranch ditch about 4 pm Thursday. He had been dead several hours and the water carried the body downstream half a mile. The parents lament the tragedy and funeral arrangements were not yet set.
Roy E Hay son of Mr and Mrs R E B Hay received a surprise party at home after visiting his brother Glenn on Saturday evening. About forty guests attended enjoying music recitations and refreshments. Roy recently returned from Lincoln Nebraska where he completed two years at Union College College View. The Hay family expresses pride and hopes for his continued noble growth and success.
The town’s Co men run a four night a week picture show at the Armory with Sgt Bridges in charge of equipment. On Wednesday Captain Gale led twenty two men on a four mile hike to Eaton for a march and return, arriving back in Ault around 11 o clock after dinner at the Commercial hotel.
The Monger reservoir near Fort Lupton burst recently, flooding fields and washing out crops. Park Glenn suffered the heaviest losses as sand covered vegetation. The Platte River rose out of its banks, flooding meadows, though no major damage reported locally.
Attorney Will Kelly seeks a roommate as he cites a two year pattern of wives for his former mates. Paul Darrow is noted as his sixth roommate to marry in two years. Clarence McGaulhey, ex Wilson Grocery, now with Knous Grocery, is mentioned in the context.
