USDA Aims to Boost Farm Exports With Hard Push
Agriculture Secretary Clifford Hardin told the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and a press briefing that the United States will try very very hard to raise exports of farm products. He noted growth will mainly come from abroad and outlined plans including expanded food stamps and commodity programs, doubled school lunch, summer meals, and nutrition education, plus talks with processors to enrich staple foods for the poor. He stressed meat imports face cost advantages but that freer world trade is needed for export growth.
