At a city council meeting, property owners protested sewer connection on Third Street while Owens received permit to erect a livery stable on Sixth Ave between Ninth and Tenth Streets. City had earlier granted an alley and ordered grading of Oriental Court despite opposition.
City residents protested promises of water rights upon entering the city while noting no benefit without water access. The water committee reviewed the request as Manager Bell urged immediate city guidance on filling the old mill ditch. The Chautauqua management reports all preparations complete for the city July 4 opening. Tickets are selling quickly with season passes at $2.25 for adults and $1.25 for children. Dr. C. B. Harper, secretary of the Chautauqua Association, urges all interested to obtain tickets.
The Manhattan Trust company filed a $22 590 000 mortgage on the D L N W railroad. Judge Milliken stated the line is tied to western coal fields via Northwestern Land Iron and is backed by a major financial concern, signaling a turning point for the railroad.
The morning program lists speeches by notable figures including Hon. Joseph Bhat tuck and Hon. W. Ky Stick with poems by W. M. Pabor and Sarah E. Howard. Music by the Denver Port boys, Unity quartet, and the Greeley Commercial Glee club accompanies talks on early days and pioneer reminiscences.
Henry T. West, sole surviving member of the Union Colony locating committee, will speak tomorrow on Thanks of the Pioneers. He planned to defer to others but the committee required a topic.

Special to the Tribune reports Evans Park in full summer garb with grass flowers and trees in fine condition thanks to Town Marshal F A Bons. His daily care and work keep the park appealing and well maintained for residents and visitors.
June 9 in Kersey reports W. Fischer the local feed man employing Ogden and King to paint his mill. The community note highlights the ongoing maintenance work.
A large party of about fifty investors traveled to Greeley to inspect the Denver Laramie and Northwestern Route. They plan a special train to Greeley within a month and several buyers from a prior visit purchased land in the city and county. The Denver Laramie Realty Company, active around Milliken, reports strong land sales along the road’s right of way.
Thousands are expected to throng Greeley tomorrow for the birthday anniversary of the city founder. A parade will form at Ninth avenue with divisions for automobiles band civic groups high school band and city officials. The reception committee expects a complete line by 10 a.m. and asks all participants to be prompt. The crowd will be seated near speakers stands in the park and city hall library and courthouse will open in case of storm.
John R Williams and Miss Catherine Alice Fitzmorris were married yesterday at the home of Mr and Mrs M C Fitzmorris. The ceremony was simple and the couple departed for a wedding trip to Denver and other Colorado points.
Denver battle over control of the Denver Gas and Electric company continued with negotiations between Chicago and Denver interests. Milton Smith accused Chicago underwriters of engineering financial pressure to seize control while denoting the receivership as necessary to keep the company afloat. Frueauff and Doherty pursued pacific talks as midnight approached without a peace accord.
Union Pacific officials visit Greeley to study making the city a junction for Estes Park travel by automobile. If approved, hundreds of tourists now routed via Loveland and Longmont would start from Greeley, boosting local business as the plan gains momentum.
Floyd 14 and Elmer 11 Clymer of Berthoud travel solo by auto from Denver to Spokane in a Flanders "20" with a sixteen day timeline. They carry a Denver mayor Speer message for Spokane and visit Eaton agent John Sandburg who joins for a short stretch toward Ault.
Greeley commerce group aims for a strong parade showing. Members urged to report to Secretary McCrery tonight to receive a cane and join the procession tomorrow.
At the baseball park tomorrow afternoon the Boomer Hook and Ladder Company will face Brush Company in a swiftly played amateur contest in Greeley. Both teams have trained hard and the game is expected to be lively and entertaining.
Dr J A Dungan of Greeley was chosen president at a Denver meeting of the state medical association. Dr G H Candin was named secretary and Dr L E Stanton treasurer. Also noted Ault moving the Forest Lumber Co to new yards near the depot after acquiring E G Steele Coal and Lumber.
The commencement at the opera house featured diplomas presented by L Wirt Markham. Speakers included Governor John Shafroth President Z X Snyder and Dr Charles B Wilcox with advice on faith in self and right living. Faculty, board members, and the chorus appeared as seniors and relatives packed the theatre.
A graduation program is listed with processional, invocations, music selections, diplomas, and a commencement address by Dr Charles B Wilcox of Denver. Governor John Shafroth presents remarks and the board president presents diplomas. Dr Snyder urges graduates to apply training to real life and avoid idols of knowledge power and culture.
In Kersey on June 9, the Latham ditch seepage floods Union Pacific tracks for about 300 feet with water up to a foot deep. The incident floods the section house and basements including Mrs Masters home, as officials from Denver investigate. The parties may sue the ditch company for large damages.
