Strikes Move Toward Settlements in Colorado Area

Strikers at the Deover chemical plant accepted a new two year contract as electrical workers in Pueblo returned to work after ratifying an agreement. A month-long AMF Head Division strike in Boulder and a Bricklayers Union stoppage in southern Colorado showed little progress toward resolution. Denver area chemical workers at Shattuck Co ended a week long strike with raises of 48 cents now and 38 cents next year. Pueblo electrical workers secured a 9.8 percent immediate hike and a 3 percent raise next April, plus enhanced medical benefits. Federal negotiators in Denver attempt to set a meeting for the Boulder dispute while union leaders cite scheduling conflicts delaying talks. Continuous work stoppages in Pueblo and ongoing talks at AMF Head Division nonresolve.
