Mining Legislation Piles Up on Docket
Washington reports mining legislation piling up on congressional dockets. Interest centers on copper tariff suspensions and mining aid funding, with panels weighing tariff extensions and domestic mine support as new actions are delayed by broader committee debates.
Senate hearing on tax and copper imports fuels house clash
A House led tax and public works dispute centers on suspending a clause in a bill and tacking it onto another measure. Western senators oppose more copper imports while the plan to fund four years of exploration and conservation at ten million dollars faces revisions. Oklahoma and Colorado remain key broomcorn producers as local grain and mining concerns influence committee talks. Summons to the Weld district court involves Mohner Berry and Opal J Berry in a state case.
