District Six officials including Superintendent Bill Mitchell reviewed proposals for ten new elementary schools. Norma Bookel led discussion as plans moved forward despite mixed reactions from Mercy community members.
CU Professor Michael Marek told a Denver civic club the budgeting system neglects long range planning and real needs. He urged the legislature to omit micro details and let the governor manage program details while the budget reflects overall priorities.
Needlepoint classes will be offered this summer, sponsored by the department, with sessions beginning June 10. An eight week program taught by instructor Bonnie Tippets will meet Wednesdays at the Community Building. Registration is $16 for the eight week course at 791 10th Ave.
Senior Center calendar lists trips to the Ozarks and Grand Ole Opry with departure from the Senior Center lot. Various activities include quilting, craft projects, a Drive License renewal session, a police show, potluck dinner, advisory committee meeting, Meas on Wheels crafts, flower favors, ovens bowling, and a dance with the Var Momentum Trio. Also planned are birthday party, a musical play by Denver seniors, and Indian foods cooking class.
Weld County commissioners approve a 1000 purchase of four handheld metal detectors for courthouse entrances and courtrooms. They also authorize 1100 in additional Platteville street improvements financing and outline road, bridge, and service staff updates amid grants, projects, and closures.
In Denver a district court jury acquitted Robert Moreno and Teddy Gomez of murder after charges were reinstated by the state supreme court. The defense challenged the credibility of key witness Barney Trujillo, who testified the men killed Denver mailman Richard Debs during a confrontation outside a bar in January 1975.
