Fuel shortages tighten farm fuel outlook in midwest
ASCS directors meeting in Des Moines heard U.S. fuel inventory concerns with some regions reporting shortages and higher prices. Some areas expect significant LP and natural gas gaps for crop drying this fall while others see no immediate crisis. Officials note many complaints are anticipatory and tied to upcoming high fuel use periods.

Farm prices rise four per cent in May said to boost costs
Prices farmers receive for raw products jumped four per cent in May and averaged 33 per cent more than a year earlier. Soybeans, cattle, cotton, corn and potatoes led gains while onions, eggs, tomatoes, broiler chickens and strawberries fell. Livestock prices rose two per cent, with cattle and hogs up from April’s levels. The May price index shows broader inflation pressures in farm markets and hints at higher consumer food costs in coming weeks.
