A 22 year old Mexican man, Juan Calejas, drowned Sunday afternoon in a reservoir six miles west of Pierce. The body was taken to Fort Collins and Coroner Macy was notified.

The coroner's inquest at Raymer found Jerome McGahan and Ida Mae Todd died from bullets fired by Walter Rising, who was concealed behind a roadside curb. Witnesses testified Rising fired five rapid shots from about twelve to fifteen feet, with all shots harming the victims as they walked away. Rising's wife and neighbors described tensions and a prior dispute. Rising remains jailed with no questioning. The dead include a man with cattle and property in Sterling.
