Unsettled weather forecast for tonight and cooler Wednesday. Local chatter covers burglaries, a diamond theft, and jokes about beer, cholera fears in New York, and the Weld county fair. Calls for public support to fund the chautauqua and praise for volunteers.
The Greeley Chautauqua association faced a heavy deficit this season yet proceeded with a high class lecture, entertainment, and musical course for the city. They accepted the burdens to uphold the long standing standard of elevating study and entertainment.
Mrs. H. H. Harbaugh enjoys a new gas range and a copper coil gas water heater. W. S. Sevier visited town from his Briggsdale ranch en route to Eaton for business interests.
A small party from Greeley fished near Seely Lake and took perch and suckers with bass said to be fished out. Locals suggest Seely Lake could host a fishing resort if more speckled beauties were present to attract nimrods.
Will Hunter and Richard Genge journeyed this morning to Will Hunters home in the Coeur d Alene district Idaho where they will rusticate for a month in the mountains. Hunter has just returned from a month long camping party at the Eaton home near Estes Park.
The Fruit Growers association sent a cherry sample to Minneapolis and received word they can use four carloads. Colorado cherries are praised as shipments for the season include 1705 cherries 982 red wasps 189 currents 150 gooseberries 129 strawberries 6 black raspberries and about 1000 crates sold independently. Loveland Herald.
Gilcrest residents return from Denver and St Anthony Hospital after brief stays. Visitors include Mrs Frank Hammond of Atlanta Neb and Mrs C I Henline. Local crops look good after rains and farmers union met in Lange hall. Joice Kennett birthday surprise and chautauqua attendance noted.
Briggsdale sees continued rain aiding harvest of winter wheat with threshing ahead. New fence work around Miss Sanna M Woodford’s farm and a model farm plan for Green Gables are mentioned along with locals purchasing headers. The first U P line motor car reached Briggsdale with daily service at 11 45 am and 2 pm.
County, purchases land between Briggsdale and Grover. Judge Gray, ill at his ranch east of town, to seek rest. Mr. Bexfield, Scotch pioneer, leaves after a month on his son's ranch and visits to old friends for Greeley. Mrs. W F Bird resigns as Sunday school superintendent due to the Sunday mail hour.
The Sioux Indian baseball club, a national touring professional team of genuine Sioux Indians, will play two exhibition games against the Greeley Spuds on July 20 and 21 at 3 p.m. daily. This fourteenth annual tour showcases speed and rivalry with local talent in Greeley. Special inducements have been offered to host the events.
