Policeman dies after assault during Minnesota WPA riot

In Minneapolis a 40 year old patrolman, John Gearty, died after being beaten by a mob during clashes between WPA workers and strikers. Officer Paul Largon assisted in detaining a nonstriker, Frank Fischer, who faced threats as authorities prepared to curb unrest. St. Paul officers and rallyes followed suit with protests and advice to halt walkouts.

Judgments Allowed On Abistrand Estate

Monday in the county court Judge Henjkmin A Woodceck allowed claims against the Abistrand estate by Employers Lifing Assurance and Niagara Trainsurvice. The award totaled 1494.23 for the insurers and 152.70 for Niagara, after commissions, with claims tied to the estate of the deceased and prior company relations. Roy M. Arrss represents the insurers. Michigan Pastor Favored For Park Church Call

C Fosberg Hughis of Camillac Michigan, First Congregational, will be unanimously recommended by the vacancy committee to the Park church congregation. The Rev Hughes, Albion College and Chicago Theological Seminary graduate, has four years in Cadillac and is married with no children. If called, he will move to Grooley Sent.

Pendergast figure tied to half million looting claims

Kansas City reports auditors found a former political figure cashing eighty five thousand dollars in checks tied to Pendergast era companies. The Star notes looting spanned twelve years with involvement of Ready Mixed Concrete and Midwest Paving firms. Walter Colburn cites orders from Edward Schneider as part of the scheme. Schneider’s suicide occurred in April amid federal probes.

Record Heat Stuns Colorado Cities With 100s

Thermometers climbed to 103 at Great Western Sugar on Monday and 105 at Public Service west of Greeley Tuesday morning. Greeley reached 106 Tuesday afternoon while Denver barely crossed 100. The region faced a weekend heat wave pushing many readings past 100, with 107 at Denver region records and forecasts of 110 possible in some spots. Crops warned, forests at risk, and temperatures hovered around 90s to mid 100s across Colorado towns including Greeley, Grand Junction, Pueblo, Trinidad, and Durango as heat moved east toward the plains. The low dropped to 34 overnight on the foothills of Pikes Peak.

Fire destroys pump house on Adcock Ranch

A pump house on the Adcock farm, three miles southeast of Windsor on the Greeley Windsor highway, was badly damaged Monday night, with the pumping system motor completely destroyed. The origin is unknown though transient gasoline seekers are suspected. Arthur Adcock, acting for his father, reported the loss after tending beans and alfalfa. The pump motor is ruined, so a tractor will be used to pump water to save the crop.

McReynolds Dies As House Foreign Affairs Chair

Washington July 1 1933 Democratic Congressman McReynolds chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee died of a heart attack at his apartment. A Chattanooga Tennessee native born 1866 served in Congress since 1922. He led hearings on foreign policy and helped shape legislation on arms control and neutrality during the interwar period.

Renfro Pays $201.50 Fine in City Court
