A chimpanzee rode a rocket 185 miles into space and survived part of the flight before contact with the capsule was lost near the end. NASA said the chimp performed tasks during the ascent and the capsule landed 1, miles from the target with ships racing to recover it.
Oklahoma City AP report lists Paul Carney of Colorado and John Clay of Wyoming among 14 Westerners nominated for the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Nominees are deceased. announcements came from ranchers trustees. Carney, a world champion rodeo rider, started in Galeto and learned from Gus Anderson, with his family and rodeo connections shaping his career.
