Planners Refuse Firm Pledge on School District Boundaries

Weld County school planning committee approved the four reorganized districts under the 1957 act but declined to guarantee no minor boundary changes. Dunn's motion to keep districts intact failed, while a no major changes resolution passed as a compromise. Gondola from giant balloon found in Caribbean

A gondola from the world s largest balloon carrying 800 pounds of film for cosmic ray study was located in the eastern Caribbean by a search plane and the destroyer Hyman then moved in for recovery. The gondola had been jettisoned Tuesday night during a mission aimed toward Venezuela as part of Project Skyhook.

Cowan to Supply 6,500 Yards for Three Atlas Sites

Cowan Concrete Products Inc of Greeley secured a $350,000 contract with Martin K. Eby Construction to provide 6,500 yards of ready mix concrete for three Atlas missile launching sites in Weld County. Site locations include west of Greeley and near Bristow and Dover, with a fourth at Merefird. First pours expected after early February.

Getaway Car Recovered in Elizabeth After Slaying Case

A red and black taxi used by the killer of four at Dr Francis M Clarke's residence was found abandoned near the Newark line in Elizabeth. Police search for a man about 35, suspected motive remains unknown. The vehicle was taken to the Elizabeth police garage for fingerprint analysis.

Strike Halts Output At Pueblo CF&I Plant

A strike by technical and clerical workers halted output at the Colorado Fuel and Iron CF&I steel plant in Pueblo. Local 2257 of the United Steelworkers voted 2247 to strike demanding a guaranteed weekly salary and work week, paid sick leave, and a contract for the branch. About 6,500 production and mechanical workers are employed there.

Ike Stops in Denver on Way To West Coast

President Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower made a short stop at Stapleton Airfield Denver at 12 29 pm MST on a coast bound trip. Governor Singo McNichols and Colorado leaders greeted them in brisk weather. The First Lady was taken to her mother Mrs Elivera Doud's home. She will rejoin the President on the return trip.

Remains Found of 1944 New Guinea Plane Crash

The remains of ten men who died in a B25 crash on a New Guinea mountain in May 1944 have been found. The Army reports six survivors from the crew of three and seven passengers on an administrative mission between Nadzab and Saldor. General BR Lee wrote that in May 1959 a Lutheran mission at Lae had recovered Army publications from the wreckage found by natives near the headwaters of the Corap and Erap Rivers.

Burmeister Acquitted On Directed Verdict

Burmeister acquitted of burglary on a directed verdict by District Judge William A. Black in Weld County Colorado. State witnesses testified Burmeister and deputy Holthusen helped in a alleged slot machine raid at a ranch house southeast of Greeley owned by Dorothy Tegiman and Mrs. Oster. The jury found Burmeister not guilty after the defense motion for a directed verdict was granted.

Senate approves amended bill on fund spillover

DENVER The Colorado Senate passed an amended version of the bill transferring general revenue fund surplus above 10 million to the capital construction fund. The House had set a 12 million ceiling. the amendment removed a 2 million cushion and extended coverage from one to two fiscal years.

Jury Sworn In For Burmeister Case Trial

A jury of eight men and four women with one alternate was seated for the Burmeister burglary case in district court. Jurors include Glenn Waterman Amy Lackey Exha Kurth Doris McCrea Victor Brehon Alfred Uckenson Ray Tauden and Alvin Kulser with Albert McClay Donald Deroo Emma Silman Henry Boxberger and Harold Saxton listed as alternates. The defense and prosecution accepted the panel after two rounds of peremptory challenges. Judge Black conducted final voir dire, stressing innocence as a protective rule of law and the use of formulas in the information. The trial entered its third day with Tegtman present. Burmeister previously sentenced for obtaining county funds by false pretenses and awaiting a motion for a new trial.
